Y piece/lamba sensor/chips

Have had a look through old posts cant seen to find anything if you replace the cat with a Y piece what do u do with the lamba sensor ? Do u need a chip ? How is performance affected ? Are chips a good mod ?

Most 'y' pieces have a place to screw the lambda sensor into....you don't need a chip but if you get the chance to buy one, it'll increase your options..
