I seem to recall mention of melting panniers, indicators…….. when you have a Y piece and/or non standard can fitted. Now, I’ve got one of Andy Cams Y pieces already to fit to the standard can. Come Spring I reckon the original plastic B*W panniers are going to be living on the bike. So, are there problem’s ahead?

Grateful for any advice chaps and chapesses.

Guess I should search the forums :o

Tim

Both MBW and Remus acknowledge a problem with extra heat and both produce items to reduce the effects of the problem.

MBW sell a sheet of foil covered gauze which you stick to the pannier - I have this on mine. About £9 but the same could be bought from B&Q but I'd doubt MBW would agree with you if there were a problem.

Remus sell a deflector to fit on the end of the can to deflect the hot gases away from the pannier.

Is it the Remus can or the y-piece or a combination of both which causes the problem? In other words will a y-piece and standard can cause heat problems for original panniers?

Bloody hell Ned !!

Oh go on then, give me a ring tomorrow night, and we'll sort something out for you

I have both so I presume it was sold due to that reason.

No idea whether y-piece/oem can or cat/aftermarket can (the latter an unlikely combination me thinks) is a problem.

Howdy Vern, how you doin?
Poped round your place over Xmas as I've got a "box" for you. Didn't leave it since you weren't there.

Not around tomorrow but I'll give you a bell soon. And whats the solution then?

Tim

PS Just realised, should I have been at the Air Balloon tonight? :shoot:

Keep us updated then NED. Coz I have just ordered an AndyCam Y-piece as well and I keep my panniers on as well so it looks like I might well have the same problem.

I've got a Y piece & Remus race can fitted & rode down to Princetown last Sept with the panniers on. I did over 300mls without stopping & without dropping below 70mph more than once. There wasn't a mark on the l/h pannier & I've made no modifications to either the silencer or the pannier to prevent anything.

Yes, you could have a problem as the pictures I posted a while back show. I've now changed to a Remus Genesis end can to see if this works, and also have the heat resistant padding as well.

I certainly don't wanna have that happen.

I've just fitted a Remus y-piece with a Revolution can ( with baffle pipe still in place ) and I'm really pleased with the package, engine running well etc., but to be fair I've only done about a 100 miles due to crap weather. The vapour trail from the Remus with pipe fitted looks like it's well clear of pannier but stories on forum of Revolution with pipe out suggest gas direction may be different then ?( I've bought pannier foil just in case! )
When I saw John Armstrongs pics it looked as if the exit pipe on the standard can would send gases in direction of the melted corner? I dragged out my old can to check this and that's what it looks like - the final exit pipe has a curve in it which looks like it would aim gases for pannier? so when the y-piece is in place and gas speed is increased this exit direction causes the problem??
Answer?? -- Fit a Revolution at same time as Y-piece??

Cheers...............Grizzly
