n the middle of a strip and rebuild....well if i was a betting man id be sure of the 4 bolts, i may get one off alive!

thankfully i got a 50/50 success rate, but im still stuck with 2 studs to extract and possible rethreading god-damn it. :blast

i suppose i should stop whinging about it and get it done.

any reccommendations for getting the studs out as 'hastle and stress-less' as possible?

The big question is why try to remove the studs if they`re intact and you`ve got the nuts off ??

Anyway..............

Soak them in Plus Gas overnight.

Put two nuts back to back on the thread as low down as you can get them, so they are locked against each other.

Apply heat to the surrounding metal.

Firstly using a spanner on the uppermost nut try to tighten the stud a little.

Then quickly use a spanner on the lowermost nut to try undoing the stud.

well two nuts came off the other two snapped a bit:blast

ultimately this project is a 'keeper' and seen as im going whole hog im determined to remove and relplace/clean up all bolts etc so that in the future they should all come off nicely (when i want them too, that is)

cheers

If the studs have snapped you`ll need to use a stud extractor (or the two nuts) to get them out or cut them off flush then drill them out and likely rethread the holes.

If there`s enough to gain a purchase with a good stud extractor or the nuts then soak them overnight as suggested first.

If you don`t have Plus Gas,then if it can be removed, leave the barrel/head in a vat of diesel overnight.
(Not sure of this model..if it`s 2 or 4 stroke...)

Otherwise,a few good sprays with WD40,heat, and the nuts or the stud extractor (tighten first). :thumb2

not many are, its a rarity-but officially sold in the uk but only 1996-98. the engine however is techincally 95% yamaha xt660 4stoke single.

wd40 heat and 2nuts will be the first attempt to have a go next week!

thanks again, ill update the thread hopefully with a ':)' once ive had another go

SZRs are very very cool.

Ive always wanted one of them, they arent that fast as standard but ive seen some with up to 90 bhp!!!!! mind you they dont last long when they are up at that level.

70 ish bhp is a nice safe level though, they handle amazinglywell, even on the standard suspension.

if you ever decide to sell it... :augie

ps. no worries about the van. sold it last night :)
