Yearly Maintenance

Took 190ml out of the FD, but 190ml back in... then a gust of wind blew my container and spent almost two hours cleaning after, luckily it was just the FD oil and not the 4L of engine oil!!!

Full service done now, happy days. Takes just a few more minutes and it's a nice piece of mind.

Also a good opportunity to take a look at what goes out to have an idea of what's going on in there.

Cheers,
Rami

On my last 1200 I used to swing the final drive to drain the oil annually, this gives the opportunity to remove the driveshaft for inspection, lube the spines at both ends and check the boots. I had the bike for 11 years and never had an issue with the final drive, that could be down to luck though.

Another important task is to remove the alternator belt cover (all of it not just the front panel) and sort out the inevitable corrosion. The paint is very tough but rubbish at the job it's supposed to do. Mounting screws seize and corrosion around the crank position sensor can cause oil leaks.
