Just posted a few pics of a ride I did yesterday in the Yengo National Park just north of Sydney. They are over in ride out/aftermath section.
Classic GS territory.
Went from the busy city to farmland to isolated bush in the space of two hours - a mixture of great fast twisty 'a' roads, lovely rural b/c tarred roads, good quality dirt, some fire trails with reasonable surfaces and some with surfaces so dodgy they were at the limit of my ability - especially 'kin deep sand - which has given me more sphincter tighteners than anything else on this bike so far.
A ride like this just convinces me that I bought just about the perfect bike for where I live and the rides I like to do.
I found the mental switch from tar to dirt to tar to dirt to tar again quite interesting - had to consciously switch mental approach to get the body working properly for the given conditions. Overall a great GS day out. Here are a couple of shots to give the flavour

Thanks for the good pics. Nice to see you have the best color on your 1200.;)

Good stuff!

Most recent off-road I did in Oz was in me Aunty's Toyota Corolla.......and she's still speaking to me....

Enjoy the land. You may realise how lucky you are....

Aspad, do you have ABS fitted and if so do you turn it off when moving from the paved to dirt roads?

nice pics btw

ABS

Hi all,
Dahoum mine has ABS (I think all oz deliveries to date have it as standard). Yes I definitely turn it off for the rougher dirt (not dirt roads usually unless I'm messing about trying to get the rear sideways:D :D :D).
ABS is a PITA if you use it on steep loose hills - it goes into what seems like continual cycle mode and you (at least I) loose all sense of what the back is doing or going to do next - it makes an annoying noise too...
The only problem with the 12 is that the ABS turns itself back on when you turn off the ignition so you have remember to always hold the button down during start up or use the kill switch instead.
A lot of the GS boys down here also let some air out of their tyres for dirt/sand - I have not done this yet cos I haven't got a guage but I'm thinking about it for the future.
