I am really fancying a 1200 gs adventure, - big panniers, long range capability, knobblies! ... But, although I've never really thought of myself as short before, I'm worried about the height of the buggers! I'm 5'10'' by the way.
I've had a read through the forum on this subject and I'm still not reassured!
I know I should just go and have a sit on one, but it's a long way to anywhere from scarborough, so I've not managed to yet, can anybody 'big' me up about this, hehehe, sorry!

I'm no stranger to offroad shenanigans, I do downhill mountain biking, and my first motorcycle was a lovely old 1972 bultaco sherpa. Although I'll probably never use the gs for digging the dirt, I'd like to think I could if I wanted to!

I'm currently riding a harley 1200 sportster, with some mods - it's still bloody awful! Wish I had my old Vmax.
I still prefer my Lambretta for longer trips, it's about as fast as the sportster, doesnt vibrate as much, and it handles better!:)

Anyway, any encouragement you can give me would be welcome!
 
My arse is much nearer the ground at 5'-7.5" - I've done 30,000 miles on a GSA and never fell of - you'll be fine
 
your right to be concerned its big n high , I'm 5,10 and I have no problems, hope this helps,

I got a standard GS 1200 no low seat version. I`m 5`8" & have no probs.

Just go for it :thumb2

5'10" is plenty tall enough to ride a GSA, the seats have two settings and there are low saddle options. Similarly you can fit knobblies and big panniers to a vanilla 1200 and the tank is plenty big enough for most people. :thumb2

Oh, and they drop really well too :blast
 
I'm 6'0 and have my GSA on the high seat setting so I can't imagine at 5'10 you'd have any problems with it on the low setting.
Off road type boots have thicker soles and add a bit of height as well :D
 
Ok, so I'm nearly convinced, all I need is the built up off road shoes, a reckless disregard for personal safety and a devil may care attitude! - Reckon I can manage that!
I like the motocross stylee seat, wouldn't want to lower it or, god forbid, put on a lower one! - this may change, - and I'll be saying " Of course I always intended to put a lower seat on, It aids the handling don't you know"
Liking the Judge Dredd avatar by the way Big Nick, I actually wear a full size JD badge on my leather! - made it meself out of steel plate & bodyfiller - that comic has a lot to answer for!
 
Thanks to all on the forum, after much contemplation, reading posts, saving pennies and general dithering, I'll be getting my gsa ('09 model) on tuesday!
Can't wait to take it up the woods and get bogged down to the axles!:D

Awww, much as I like the friendly bulbous looking 1150, I was going for the most modern model I could afford. Too late now to change me mind!:hide

the lambretta is a 1966 Li 150 Silver Special, but for modern practicality I've taken the original motor out, put it safely away, and I've got a Rayspeed Rapido 200 in it at the mo, road tune with big carb and Fresco, - I was surprised recently that my mate on his ducati clocked me at 80mph, - I thought I was holding it down to a reasonable speed! ( clock only goes up to 100 Kph )
 
Wow, thats a new one on me, wait 'till Ray gets his hands on it! 22hp - you can get that out of a Ts1, - ooohh, reckon Ray could get 44...... for an hour, before exploding! I've got a day off tommorow, perhaps I'll go and bother him with the problem!:)
