as said elsewhere ...

My 2009 12GSA is in for its 6k service and they are horrified at the overall corrosion levels. The bike is garaged, cleaned regularly, and, for once, not ridden in salty conditions (apart from when I moved house - 3 miles and hosed down before being put away) and often doused in that scottoiler stuff

So far there is corrosion on:

both cylinder heads
both cylinder sleeves
timing cover
engine case
gearbox
starter motor
shaft drive
final drive/diff
foot pegs
crash bars - stainless steel my arse
frame at the welds
subframe
centre stand
rear wheel hub

I am off to Norway in a fortnight for 4 weeks and await, with interest, BMW's response.

Frankly I am expecting a fight, however on a basically new bike I think they'll lose in a big way. Would I buy another BMW? Possibly, but I'd be looking at the alternatives very very closely.

I don't think BMW will care at all that you've gone to Norway.

now that after a shit day a work made me smile a lot ,ta

btw my ex off road school 14.5k 08 gsa ridden all through winter has no corrosion at all,but it has had acf 50

luck of the draw im afraid

its shit i know, but its something thats been going on for best part of 15 years, on all models too.

its mentioned constantly on all sites where bmw are mentioned, its something you either live with or deal with.

im assuming your one of the million new to bmw ex sports bike type who is very pissed of that that round the world bike you longingly desired is corroding its self inside your garage. (dont take it personal, its just people get used to not having corrosion on new jap bikes)

well dont say you wern't wanrned.

bmw will replace some items you list under warranty, you will have to fight i guess for the rest.

good luck:thumb2

I dumped my 04 in a hedge not long after she was new, scraping the rhs rocker cover.....5+ years on it isn't corroding.

What am I doing wrong?

:nenau

Could that be because rocker covers are magnesium alloy? :comfort

You have to be joking! You can almost watch a Suzuki dissolve in the rain, and both Hondas I had showed lots of corrosion under the plastic.

The plastic is the big difference. You cants see whats happening underneath on a Jap sportsbike but its all to open to see on a GS.
