I will be taking Delivery of my New GS tomorrow and as part of my "Deal" negotiations I have aquired a "used" Rear Hugger from my Dealer which I am in the process of Painting Black. However, after reading most of the Hugger Info on this excellent Site I am a bit concerned as some of the Products described seem to be of dubious Quality and really unfit for purpose. I know that I got my Hugger for free but even that does not make it a bargain if it,s not up to the Job. Problem I have is identifying my Hugger which does not have a Manufactuer,s name and after trawling thro. the various Pics on this site I can,t spot it. I don,t have any pictures but a description is as follows. The Hugger is not Carbon Fibre and is of a symetrical shape with a continuous curve from back to front. Total length measured over the outer surface is around 30 inches. Fixing is by a substantial alloy bracket (machined from solid) which "Bridges" over the Rear Brake Caliper and mounts to the Caliper fixing holes with the longer bolts supplied. The Fixing (Bracket to Hugger) is by three screws from inside the Hugger to tapped holes in the Bracket. Please can anyone identify this Hugger and perhaps advise if it,s a Good-un or a Duffer. Many Thanks.

re hugger

looking at your explanation i would say its a nippy normans like the one ive just took off me 1200gs as it was catching the side of the tyre i tried always to sort it to no avail so it went the journey

Hugger

It,s a motorad concepts hugger, no longer made and will rub if used with bridgestones.
I used one of these with anakees and it was fine but like all huggers on the GS keep an eye on it as it may damage your tyres.
Now using a Ilmberger hugger (carbon fibre) looks brilliant, secure mounting but rattles like hell over bumps.
After making expensive mistakes begining to think the bikes better without them. (but they do keep most of the crap off the left side of the bike and shock).:rob

Many thanks for the replies and advice Guys. I will keep an eye on it after its fitted. I made a bit of a mess of applying the Top Black Paint Coat so if it does not perform I,ll bin it and go for something better. Incidently, a local Paint Shop (Thornaby) wanted £80 to paint it !!. Does this sound about right?
Regards, Mike Tee.

£80 sounds about right for a decent paint job - but I wonder why you want to fit one in the first place bearing in mind all of the potential problems?

For £80, I would buy a cheap return plane ticket and sit in some cafe drinking beer and watching the day go by.............;)

Just noticed that BMWBike Bits (follow link at top of this page) have a "New" Inner Fender from Wunderlich that fixes to the Frame and not the Swinging Arm. From the Pics it looks OK. Anyone tried one of these yet ?.
