You all told me.....

I would think more like - no assistance. Unless Nutty switches it off during a ride and I wouldn't know why you would want to do that? As the bike only gives you help when you need it (torque sensing etc).

I'm asking due to the below quote....and yes I agree, it all sounds like a play on words, the quote reads like it's been switched off but like you I also think that it's likely to be non assisted, i.e. above 15mph or possibly downhill when it's not being peddled.

According to the Bosch software, it’s been ridden switched off for 79% of the time of that 1000 miles,

:

Of 1000 miles you've done 790 without the motor being switched on ?

Yep. :thumb

I mainly bought the bike for exercise, as the gym is shut, so I need to burn big calories. But on some of the hills, the assistance comes in quite handy, so I switch it back on.

It was something like 79% switched off, 2% in Eco, 14% in Tour and 5% in eMtb. I’ve not used Turbo at all.

Good going that. Strong cycling; you must be feeling the benefit in fitness and with your back. :okay

Yep, fitness is as good as it’s always been, and my back seems to be holding up. Since stopping swimming and doing this, my upper body strength isn’t as good, but my legs are huge now. It’s looking like the health club I go to is reopening in 3 weeks, so I’ll mix the cycling with the swimming, for the best of both worlds.

Any open water lakes near you... Denham has been open for a few weeks now

Unfortunately, the ones near me have been closed until recently. I’m not exactly swim fit now, so will hang on for my place to reopen, then get back into it there. This cycling malarkey seems to be keeping the fitness levels reasonably stable.

So why buy an eMtb ? If 3/4 of the time you’re not using the “e”.

It sounds like you’d be better off with a normal mtb and not lugging another 10+ kg of motor & battery around ?

For the hills, mainly. With a knackered back, it makes life much easier as you can sit more upright when going up really steep hills. And having the extra weight makes it more of a workout when switched off. Win win. :thumb

Are you mainly on forest tracks or lanes ? (I'm trying to get my head round 16mph average while I blow out of my arse to average 10mph round here...)

As I said, 14-18mph average is good road bike averages and with 80% being done manually, it's almost elite xc speeds.

.

Overall though, I’m really glad I got this bike. I’ve been places I wouldn’t have gone if I didn’t have one, and it’s keeping me fit. According to the Bosch software, it’s been ridden switched off for 79% of the time of that 1000 miles, so that blows any theories of ebikes doing all the work!
. :beerjug:

Something doesn't make so much sense - Yestedray I did 220km and burnt just over 5,000 calories on my non-electric road bike, (equivalent to 30,000 Cal per 1000 miles). I cant really compute how you only burnt 1,500 calories in 1000miles when not using the motor for 79% of your riding!!!

Yep, fire tracks, forest tracks & a few mountain bike tracks. :thumb

The calorie count on the screen shot was just from yesterday's ride. ;)

I wouldn’t want the Purion, now that I’ve had the Kiox!

On another note, I find it strange that the battery doesn’t regenerate under pedal power. I’d have thought that would be a logical way to top up the battery when out and about, similar to the way that cars have regenerative batteries under braking, only the other way round. One day, I guess.

Did your bike come fitted with the Kiox? I'm looking at upgrading the Purion to maybe a Cobi but have to go through the pain of buying the Intuvia mount so a simple change could run into hundreds and the Cobi had mixed reviews but since Bosch bought them out things seem to have improved. I love a gadget I might look like an elephant on a tricycle but at least I'll have stats for it.

Yep, the Kit came with it. Luckily I didn't see any of the higher end Bosch displays when I got the bike, otherwise I would have probably gone for one!

Same here. :blast

I’m back on the original seat! If anyone on here wants the Spoon, send me a PM.

If anyone wants another nearly new charge spoon (all black) seat then let me know as well? :blast

This is the latest one I am trying, reminds me of Gonzo from the muppets :D
