You all told me.....

Not sure why you are buying a FS for mostly road work? I would have suggested a hard tail MTB, which are fine for trails and gravel tracks. If you have a bad back, would you go in the hills and hollows? FS doesn't help back pain! The shop will be happy as they are getting more £££

At the moment, while the roads are quiet, I'll be riding more on the back lanes than off-road. I don't really class fire tracks as off-road, so will be riding on these a lot now. Once we're out of lockdown, I'll then be riding more off-road, so the full sus will come into its own.

I'll use the next few weeks to build strength/ muscle memory back up, so hopefully by the time I go off-road again, I shouldn't have as many issues. :thumb

You're going to love it! You'll wonder why you ever considered anything else! :D As Butch Cassidy said..... Ebikers have vision, and the rest of the cyclists wear bi-focals.... (slightly edited! :))

My bike comes back absolutely plastered in mud and grass etc after a ride in the local forest. I then get the hosepipe out and wash the worst off with the gun thing ( not drowning the motor area ) then get a soft brush on the stubborn stuff. Then rinse it all off. It comes up good as new and working perfectly. Nothing to worry about there. :thumb2

It won't put me off buying one but will have me concerned long term winter use.

Anyone was to buy a La Pierre Zesty FS :D

I'd be very interested to know how these motors and batteries cope with a wet muddy British winter. When we used to ride at nights in the winter we'd come back absolutely minging and the bikes were as bad, so how would that fit in with all the lecky stuff cause every video I've watched so far has been in bone dry conditions.

No issues at all, Always jet wash it... spray it with bilt hamber Surfex HD first then dog dryer and smother it in gt85 an wipe off Bikes like new after a yr of hard use, just got in from 20ml off road ...i bought a ventureshield kit for it what covers virtually all the bike £100 but money well spent

I recon you will increase your fitness quicker with an ebike as you will ride it more and get to see more places whist doing it.
Also if you fit your GPS to it check the route twice before you set off = maybe 3 times ;) :green gri
Have fun and be careful please

I like it dry

They’re good in mud...

There's the bridalway stuff, you round a bend to find a big section of not sloppy mud but those soft deep hoof holes. The kind of stuff that would stop you in your tracks. On an eBike you just power through.

Then there’s the mud on a firm surface or very wet grass - Just hit turbo mode and put in some power slides :D

Re the motors:

I’ve heard the new Bosch are good at the transition from assisted to being on your own

The Brose motor is not so good and it’s that slight tugging feel as you go through that transition that feels odd. Specialized dealers can set the bike to 2000mm wheel diameter and not affect warranty then the assistance is to about 18mph which is just enough to man you are not often going into the non assist mode unless it’s downhill then it’s not an issue as you a well past the assist/not assisted zone.

Apparently Brose motors are made by the company that makes BMW and other electric power steering motors - That’s quite a good thing IMO. If you consider the gyro forces something like a big tyres 21inc wheel on an an X6 doing 155mph generates and the need to control that with power and finesses you get why the cross over to making eBike motors makes sense

I'm not on about how good or not they are in mud I'm on about how the parts deal with getting mud and water constantly thrown at them and the subsequent washing down.

As someone who used to ride 3 - 4 times a week right through wet horrible muddy winters I know how much the shit gets everywhere and I'm not entirely convinced over time the electrical parts can withstand it.

Looks nice, Nutty .
You’ll love it.Done about 300 miles on mine in last few weeks before work stopped play.

Motor is sealed, so nothing to worry about, though I wouldn't take a pressure washer direct to the motor, but otherwise there really isn't anything to worry about.

Please stop your reasonable and rationale responses based on your personal experiences immediately!!! :rob

Tossers like something to worry about, if gives us stuff to post on here and argue about, and we feel all the better for it! :D

A someone who has cycled a lot in my past life, I would have been horrified at the thought of power assisted pedaling, but having read through the stuff posted on here and other reviews i think it might be time to take the plunge and give it a go. I'm also missing getting out on the trails on my Husky and this looks like being a great alternative, which has the added benefits of opening up a network of bridleways to explore!

We'd rather you didnt, the more people that switch over to ebikes means theres less normal cyclists for us to overtake when going up hill.

Toddy although your total trail ride distance is lower than it would be on a Husky ride - Distance on the actual trail will be similar, certainly in my neck of the woods I can string together a lot of trails with the odd quite footpath and have very little road work.

Btw if you’re taking the plunge go for a Turbo Levo Carbon frame with the 700w battery - An alternative is buy a 2019 carbon comp and look for a sub £5000 price and ask the dealer to set the wheel circumference to 2000mm :D

Got it! Yep, I’m impressed. The way the power comes on, and switches off is seamless. It was funny riding away from the shop, and the power kicked in, in Turbo mode! :green gri

Despite saying I won’t be doing much off road, out of 22 miles today, around 17 of those were off road. I’m aching a bit now! The suspension is brilliant, soaking up a lot of the bumps. On the real gnarly stuff, I’d stand instead.

I like how at the end of a ride, you can just power up hills. We live in a valley, so the ride always starts and finishes with a big hill. :blast No issues with this bike.

I didn’t burn as many calories as normal today, but didn’t expect to. Stats for the ride are attached below.

Gave it a quick wipe over when I got home, as it got covered in dust, and noticed the cheeky buggers had put their stickers on the main tube, advertising their shop, so they’ve not been removed. If anyone is buying a bike from there, tell them not to stick their stickers on. It’s a real bugbear of mine.

Is it cheating? Yes, of course it is! But I don’t care; it’s good fun, and I’m looking forward to getting further afield on it in the coming weeks.

OK, so stupid question, but isn't the whole point of cycling "getting some excercise"? And isn't the "going up hills under your own power" the most important part of it?

I haven't cycled in years, but I have done multiple 100 mile runs and cycled from London to Paris the hard way.

eBikes sure look cool though, but I can't help thinking they are missing the point....

Go above the 25kph limit and they are harder work.

You are carrying approx 10kg extra weight and going against the resistance of the motor
