Some times a good off road route will resort in the use of footpaths. No problem with a mountain bike but an electric bike weighs a ton and wouldn't be too easy to lift over stiles. And I know that I shouldn't be riding on footpaths but needs must

Some of the best off road rides are singletrack through woods and across craggy mountain sides. I can't imagine they would be much fun on a hefty electric bike.

I think it will be a long time before I trade my carbon Zesty for an electric bike.

I was told by my local bike shop NOT to use the Co2 cartridges if you’ve gone tubeless.

Was that just before they sold you an expensive pump :D

I also use Co2 to Seat a new tyre

You don't "need" to go tubeless at all.

It's not a bad idea but definitely not a "need"

I’ve had a ride with three punctures, proper squirters. When hear the sealant squirting out, you brake hard and quickly get the hole to the bottom and it seals.

With a 29 2.6 tyre they hold a lot of air so normally if you’re quick you can carry on without having to put more air in. As mentioned already, quite often you only know you’ve had a puncture when you see the tell tale sign of sprayed sealant

My view on tubeless is why not - if the wheels are tubeless ready it’s a simple to do

I’m now off mountain bikes for the next 4-6 weeks - I’ve just had the MRI results from my fall 'fractured collar bone'

That’s was from falling of my single speed MTB

None of these challenges with a Brompton.
Now just try riding it down a bumpy trail.
If the inherent instabily doesn't get you, the small wheels and ruts will.
 
Theres no resistance on the new Bosch motor in his bike.

The roadgoing ebike has a Bosch motor, and small driving sprocket. Therefore, there is gearing between the pedals and the sprocket. This equals losses/resistance.
The trail bike has a Bafang motor with a normal sized front sprocket and a freewheel between it and motor, so no resistance. Having said that, the bike is heavy, so, with 1/3 of my heart muscle goen awol, non ebikes are out for hills.

I'm thinking that daft fucker has just freewheeled down a hill after stopping for a chat! not realizing he's forgot to switch the fucker on! as soon as he's tried to pedal..... "Bang" down he's went, measuring about 4.2 on the Richter scale ;) causing a Giant Tsunami in Tayside

Nah bollocks, I've seen his work before, if fact I have a rather large dossier on him.
 
I made the mistake of letting Mrs Nutty have a go on the ebike last night. She came back grinning from ear to ear, and now wants one of her own. :blast

The pre 2020 Bosch Performance Line CX Motor has a small sprocket and a 2.5:1 gearbox. I run a 20 tooth sprocket which equates to a virtual 50 tooth. The problem with these motors is that the gearbox has drag and past 16mph equates to "hitting a brick wall". The 2020 CX motor does away with the gearbox and does not have the associated drag.

I actually like the drag on the previous motor as beyond 16mph, the thing is very hard to pedal (basically a 26Kg bike with the brakes stuck on). So you get a genuine workout but the bike helps you up hills.

I changed mine from standard to 18 tooth (I think?) which kind of gives me an extra gear or two at the top end which is better for high speed, but I kind of loose a gear at the lower end when cycling up steep hills.
 
De-restricting is your answer.

Road bike: (Bosch) on Sinus BC90. Fully automatic gearbox. No desire to de-restrict. Full power up to 25kph, then a gradual reduction to no assist at 27kph. Beautiful assist characteristics.

Trail bike: (Bafang G510) on a Frey AM1000. The 1000 stands for 1000w/1000ah battery. I have often had it at 80kph. Lost my nerve there. It is limited to 90kph. De-restriction is by USB link to computer. Have never felt the need to go any faster on it.

I did, however, reduce the assist in power modes 1 & 2.(Out of 10). The bike was just to difficult to ride on twisty trails. Never use it on trails beyond power mode 2. Just unrideable.

When I originally decided I wanted an eBike Mrs B was very sarcastic and said it’d never get used, more money than sense, she wouldn’t want one and the rest of the usual bollocks then she came with me when I went to buy one, had a test ride on one and we came home with two.
