You don't want this to happen

Conversation I had tonight, if Honda made a viable alternative go the GS it could have some serious competition and I don't mean the Crosstourer.

Never gonna happen.:rob

At least bmw seem to have solved the corrosion problem that makes it difficult to remove the spokes on the older 1100/1150 series wheels.

Facetube has a larger number of theorists and hobby engineers than we do!!!
Don't think I'll bother with that then

Reason for failure appears to be loose/incorrectly replaced caliper bolts after a disc change while at the dealer's.
Bolts came out, caliper went vertical and sheared off all the spokes.
There's another one for the checklist when getting bike back from service.
Didn't think it was a stick/rod through the spokes, Mythbusters disproved that one a while ago trying to replicate the Indiana Jones bike going head over heels. They couldn't get anything to go through the wheel while it was moving.

Interested to know where that came from......and how official it is.

The calliper in pic 2 appears to be in place and relatively undamaged :nenau

Was this a technical assessment/conclusion from BMW, or just an opinion?

Fanm - good question. Here's a Facebook comment posted by Bruno Landry, owner of the troubled bike:

"Verdict is out! It appears that of the two bolts holding the caliper, one was left out and the other one wasn't tightened. Caliper went vertical while the wheel was turning, in the way of the spokes... Human error. BMW wheel design engineers can rest easy. My dealer gave me the impression he would make things right. Now let's see if he puts his money where is mouth is... I'm optimistic."

Right now I think thats probably the best we are going to get. Pretty serious piece of incompetence from a mechanic. It's as if they need to break up the jobs such that one mechanic does the work, and the another quality checks the work done + torques the bolts up.
