You tube and other vids

Bryn/Mr K i too am getting the stutter on the vids
2meg down and 33sumut up tried Firefox and IE
both the same so it must be BT's fault:augie
Great saying that now i don't work for them any more:rob

Guess this is pretty crap too!

not too shabby

We live about 2 miles from the exhange and get decent enough performance, I still often get problems as you described Bryn, but mainly when the USA comes online, probably a capacity thing on youtube

My O2 broadband seems to be above average then.

:D

Is this good ?

I doubed the upload speed recently by simply turning the modem off and on again. Virgin had upgraded the system and to benefit you just needed to reset the system box and modem

I was with Sky, up to 8, when tested it was .9, CRAP to say the least, I had same problem as you when watching BBC Iplayer. So I changed to virgin, fibre optic, so quick, now getting 9.77, plus you can watch Iplayer etc on your TV! :thumb

Can anyone tell me how bad this is, it has to be bad because it is always v-slow at everything. :thumb2

As you might guess, that is terrible especially the ping speed of 83ms
What speed are you paying for?
Number of factors contribute to slow speed
Type or age of router
The time you did the test, - noon Sunday.
distance from Exchange
Number of houses sharing the same card
Bad quality copper lines, or just very old copper line
bad phone wiring inside house to router
Are you wireless? could be lots of people using your bandwidth
If you are >6000m (cable length not line of sight) from exchange you will not get high speed Broadband.

To check router stats use www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm

To check Exchange distance go to http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker
enter details and after it pops up with what's available click on locality (need postcode for this) on the left hand menu in middle of page and you will see how far to local exchange you are.

BT's advertising says I can get up to 20mb, which is the package I'm paying for

I'm 1.48km from Exchange,

Speedtest.net says I'm getting 5.84Mb (sunday lunchtime)
BT performance tester at speedtester.bt.com says my D/L speed is approx 6Mb (with max achievable of 7mb)

so speedtest.net & speedtester.bt.com are giving consistent results
