Young German girl had her bike stolen in Edinburgh.... anyone of assistance?

I sent an email to Courtney Cameron at the Evening News on Friday, directing her to this story. Not heard anything back from her yet.

From the IAM Scotlands Facebook page:-

"Thieves in Edinburgh have got a new technique. I have it on pretty good authority that one of the Two Wheels' instructors stopped to de-brief his trainee, leaving his keys in the ignition. Yep, you guessed it, bike stolen. Apparently got on to the trainee's bike and chased him. Didn't catch him. Stopped when he realised that getting caught doing 85mph wasn't a good plan. take care folks!"

Are you on the Scotland's Bikers Against Bike Crime Facebook page, Keith? There's a pic on there from yesterday of a group of the known young bike thieves driving past The Cove in South Queensferry, eyeing up bikes and when they were challenged, they drove off.

Well done to all of you have helping this lady. We had a similar scenario here a few years ago when an Aussie guy (I think) on his way from Japan overland heading west to the USA had his bike stolen in Dublin. He was well looked after by the community from here. Donation made and I will post this link on the Ireland section.

On Maike's behalf - thank you very much, Sir and to anyone who has donated since I also offered my thanks.... :thumb2

Hi Mike,
Yep, I'm on the Scotland's Bikers Against Bike Crime Facebook page.

Interesting to note that the neds were checking out the Cove. I suppose with the tourist season finishing, "targets" within the city are getting thinner on the ground, and they need to seek out new opportunities. Shame that they didn't manage to stall the car when challenged....

We've reached a total sum of £1343.68 in the collection for Maike. Jennifer has asked me if we could please close the collection. We're hoping Maike's bike will be ready today and she'll be back on the road. Thank you very much to everyone who donated and who expressed concern over the theft of Maike's bike.... :thumb2

Maike, preparing to leave Saltire Motorcycles in Edinburgh this afternoon. The young man in the pic is Mike Drennan, Service Manager at Saltire. His father Andy used to be on here....

Nice to see she's on her way, nice wee bit of community spirit. And good for her to head off by herself around the UK and wherever else, takes a bit of confidence which she obviously has. Wouldn't surprise me if we read of her doing a trans Africa in a year or two. Go for it :thumb2
