Your views on Schuberth helmets?

Cheaper than £220 @ Infinity

I paid £195 today for a fancy graphics version..................plain were £175

Thanks, that looks to be a great price. I'll still try the C2, but I think that the S1 at that price looks great (if, as said above, they were genuinely a £400 helmet recently).

How come they are so cheap? I thought that it was still the current model.

Err............

The S1 Pro is the new model and comes with a Pinlock equipped visor and some new graphics.....RRP is £500

S1 came out about 3-4 years ago and is now being phased out in favour of the Pro version. RRP was about £399, but Infinity are doing for sub £200. It's a steal and I have a S1 Pinlock visor already - so mine is same as S1 Pro

I looked at both side by side today and couldn't tell any discernible differences

I'm not a betting man, but if I was I'd have a tenner on this:-

Yes, that's not really very good.

I asked the guy in the HG shop what I got extra with the Schuberth over a £150 lid, and he tried to tell me that the more expensive lids give better protection. I didn't think that anyone still tried to peddle that line nowadays.

Top of the range Arai RX7RR don't figure much better either:augie

If your helmet is damaged that bad in a crash and it survives, you'll probably die from massive thoracic/chest injuries anyway or a broken neck

So it means not very much in the real world, the other parts of your body are much more vulnerable in a bike crash - leather/textile/armour won't protect you from a heavy impact crash..................so you're gonna die

A good close friend of mine died in 2002 - his Arai survived the crash well - pity his chest injuries was too bad for him to survive and live

The helmet saved his head and meant he was concious, but dying from unsustainable chest/major organ injuries - not pleasant or pretty

I got my S1 from the Infinity stand at the NEC for £180, plain sliver, the best colour :D I wandered past the SHARP stand and checked out what my spanking new, top spec, super dooper lid scored, easily 6* out of five for MY lid ;) So I was most pleased when I found out it scored 2 :( Although I got the impression that SHARP is doing a bit of back peddaling when the guy told me that fit is more important than the score they got.

Apparently it's the side impact tests that do it for the S1. Schuberth dispute that it's a valid test, as they say most impacts are on the top of the head, not the side.

In my very limited crash experience, the side of my helmet took all of the impact force and the top was unmarked. But what do I know?

I just ordered a C2 from HG for £199 so I will know what that is like tomorrow AM and let you know..

Arrived 15 minutes ago and is already packed up to go back...a used (or ex-display) helmet with finger prints all over it and a faulty visor that won't shut properly.

Still the guy on the phone was helpful enough and he is sending me another one.
Slipped through the net or are all helmets 'off the shelf'?

Well, HG seem to have run out of the C2s now, but, after trying a medium, I am not that bothered, as it just did not seem so great as I'd hoped.

I don't want to spend £400+ on a C3, given the very mixed reviews, and poor rating, so am actually thinking of getting a £140 HJC flip-front instead. I got one for my girlfriend this weekend, and it seems well put together, and perfectly adequate for the job.

like yourself, had been wearing an arai for years, and wanted a lid with the internal sun visor,

we purchased two s1 pro lids, got a great price from helmet city,

the lid is a bit heavier than the arai, and bigger, but much quieter, even when you just put the lid on you feel all the padding around you,

its a great lid,
