But all is not lost..... read -on
My Zumo stopped responding on the 2nd day of this years German invasion- Touch screen decided it would ignore me. Powered up ok and displayed map could navigate around it using buttons on the side but not much use for choosing a destination or loading a route.
Email to Garmin suggested re-calibrating screen but not much good if it won't respond. Garmin guy @ Garmisch confirmed dead digitiser as well.
A little Googling brought up details of Digitiser failures (the bit that sits in front of the LCD screen)and our brothers at Advrider have great detailed instructions on how to change the digitiser Here http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=528905
So on Monday I ebays around and finds this guy in London (all the others appear to be in China)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251091923464#ht_1163wt_1163
I've no tie to this guy other than ordering the part on monday night and it getting it this morning.
Took me 10 mins to split the Zumo (8 x T6 torx screws) and remove and replace the Digitiser, calibrate it and put it back together.... Best £9.99 plus post I've spent in ages.
Understand Garmin will do an exchange on Dead Zumo's but I've heard figures of £150 mentioned so makes this repair look even better
Hope someone else finds this useful
All was not lost on the trip though as Mrs Snowman had a 660.. Admittedly she was only on day 3 of using it at this stage, & those of you who know Mrs Snowman will know that she's Technologically Challenged - Had some interesting last minute changes of direction and route recalculations, but she did well leading us into and out of Berlin & Munich !!!
