Having had my Zumo 550 + lifetime updates, with no major issues.
All last week, all be it the same route each day, Suffolk across to Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. The Zumo routes me across the A14 past Newmarket and wants me to take the A11 South of Cambridge, this instruction I ignore as I always have and continue straight on past Cambridge and onto the A428.
After passing the A11 slip road the Zumo starts to recalculate but instead of being able to carry on displays; "Unable to calculate route" and the "OK" button beneath. When you press the "OK" button the map is displayed but the routing has stopped.
By reselecting the recent destination again "Biggleswade" everything is back to normal. A14 - A428 - A1 etc.
Anyone have any ideas on this?

Also when starting up the Zumo it keeps coming up with "Maps out of date, please update" despite having the latest 2014 mapping installed.
The other thing I've noticed is the Zumo is still taking the old roads and mapping, not recognising the new roads displayed on the device?

You could try this before ringing Garmin. Save all your favorites & routes to your pc then do a hard reset. Run WebUpdater to update device & Reinstall the latest maps. :thumb

Under 'maps' and 'info', try de-selecting the old maps. See if that works?

Well done!

This has sorted out the mapping issues, but not the start up issue of the maps being out of date despite downloading the latest maps yesterday (11.5Hrs.) straight to the SD card (4Gb), for the first time using Garmin Express (very slow 9.25Hrs.) and then uploading to the Zumo 550 via Basecamp (slow 2.25Hrs.).

You have all got it wrong.

Same route all last week, this is the problem

Monday. - ok I will show this guy the way
Tuesday - ok we will do it again
Wednesday - Christ I have done this twice already
Thursday - fuck me is this guy for real - think I will mess him about to see if he has remembered the route
Friday - sod this I am just going to mess him about completely

Sounds like you still have the old mapping on the device. If you previously updated the GPS using MapInstall or Mapsource then you'll have the mapping installed as a file called GMAPSUPP.IMG. Your latest install, if done correctly, will be to a file called GMAPPROM.IMG. You need to hook your GPS up to your computer and look in the /Garmin/ folder for these files, same on the SD card. File dates will be your clues as well as file size. Move any GMAPSUPP.IMG file to your PC as a precaution and delete from the GPS.
The unable to calculate route problem can be caused by lack of available storage space. Before deleting any files check how much free space you have on the GPS itself, 200MB + should be sufficient. Deleting old GMAPSUPP.IMG files will help here.
