Zumo 550 Mac compatible

Considering buying a Zumo to use with my Mac (OS X operating system). Anyone had any experience with this and whether they're actually compatible. Garmin reckon they are, but then they would say that ...

The compatibility issue has always been the map software to use with a Mac, for a long time there just wasn't any.

Garmin have been developing Bobcat which is getting pretty good.

Haven't got my Zumo yet (soon I hope), but don't forget you always have the option of running the Windows software using Parallels or VMWare Fusion.

Bootcamp is the way to go!
Once you have a version of windows to install and an Intel based Mac then just open up Utilities and launch the boot camp assistant - it's fairly straight forward from there.
I work on both PC and Macs and Vista runs better on the former.

You don't want to be sullying your Mac with (in this case) unnecessary windoze applications. The Mapsource equivalent program, "Bobcat" has now been released and re named "Roadtrip". As far as I can see, it does everything that Mapsource does on a PC, and the user interface is nicer. All the other supporting bits of software such as the webupdater and POI loader all have versions that run natively on a Mac now, and I believe that the latest versions of all of the mapping products will now load directly on a Mac as well as a PC.

I installed this a couple of weeks ago after my PC went t*ts up.

I've been running a PC along side my Mac for some time now so i could use Mapsource etc, it's a little bit of a faff converting the Maps but it is fairly straight forward.

Anywho it works brilliantly highly recommended

I have used Bobcat and Roadtrip with the 550 and they have both worked very well although they feel a bit strange for a while if you are used to Mapsource.

now got road trip loaded on two macs. as daffy says, it's a bit different from mapsource, but seems to do what i want and cuts out all that windows bollocks*


*er, nearly. you still need all your maps installed on a windows machine in the first instance, so's you can transfer the map files across to your mac. city navigator europe won't install on os-x yet. i believe CN north america 08 actually does, and CN europe 09 will too.
