i have a zumo 550 wired back to a Centech fuse panel under the seat. quite happily working for 18 months. yesterday whilst riding home the zumo shut down with a low battery warning.
put a meter across the fuse panel and 12volts coming out fine???
what now?
any ideas what pins are the power supplies at the other end? or what else can it be?
zumo unit charges fine when plugged into the mains?

I had exactly the same problem. I phoned Garmin and the guy was certain it would be the power cable. He sent a new one out straightaway and that cured the problem. Give them a ring - it's obviously a problem they're aware of.

thanks, perhaps a call this afternoon will sort it out?

So when it's on the car mount, and plugged into a live 12v cigarette lighter you only see the battery symbol?

If that's the case the zumo is at fault :(

I found some corrosion on one of the small copper contacts on the bottom of the Zumo which was causing a poor contact with the mounts.

This caused the unit not to charge when on the bike or in the car mount.

It happened after using it on the bike for three days of continual rain. I cleaned it up and its been fine since. A thick smear of petroleum jelly on the bike mount contacts seems to have stopped it happening again.

:)

thats what i thought? but if it takes a charge from the mains, it cannot be the battery or the zumo can it?

i gave the zumo copper pieces and the mount spikes a wipe over with wd40 this morning? still did not work?

And that is not the on bike power supply on my mount.
umm.. possibly not but the connections are all clean and free from any corrosion? and by plugging into mains proves it is not the zumo battery, and therefore probably if the zumo was faulty it would not work at all??

Not really.

It charges from the usb socket but not in the car or the bike holders.

The possibility of both them faulting at the same time is very remote. The common thing is the Zumo.

You say the terminals are all fine so the fault will be inside the Zumo somewhere between the copper terminals and battery.

Whatever you can't mend it yourself so it needs to go back to Garmin :thumb2

I had this problem when my Zumo was new. Turned out the battery was fecked. They sent a new one no problem and it`s been OK for 18 months:thumb

I`ve always found garmin to be extremely helpful.

I'd be surprised if the power lead is not your problem.

Then why doesn't it work ok on the car mount ;)

Excluding the tech support not really knowing what a BM Nav 2 is, and why should they, it's a BM GPS :blast I've always found them helpful and quick to either repair an item or return it upgraded :)

power lead now tested, gives out 12.3volts
other end that plugs into cradle also gives out 12vots? so not the cable?
put a tester on the cradle and found one of the prongs gives out 12v? so not not sure what to do now?
