Zumo 660 cradle

I have put this in the 660 section already:

Having searched this section (Zumo 660), the last comment I can find to my question was a long time ago when there were fewer 660's actually being used and therefore little available feedback. So my question is - just how secure is a 660 in the standard cradle that comes with the unit? If I upgrade from my 550 to a 660 I want to be able to use it on both of my bikes, so an expensive option gets even more expensive if I need to buy more secure mounts such as from TT. Is there any means of locking the push button on the standard cradle in any way to prevent the unit coming off accidentally?

I'm not worried about theft as I will always take the unit off the bike when I'm not riding it, but am only concerned about how secure the unit is when on the move. I won't be going off road, so tarmac and the occasional jarring pothole needs to be considered.

an option.....

Fasten a camera lanyard to the battery door.

There's a SMALL space below the battery that allows clearance.

I drilled a 2mm hole, pushed the lanyard lead through it and secured it with a needle held in place and sealed against water ingress by a little dab of araldite. Job done.

Wouldnt want to walk round swinging it off the lanyard but IF it pops out of the mount the lanyard 'should' hold for long enough to stop and recover it.

I looked at installing the lanyard through the speaker slots but couldnt get it to go due to sausage fingers and alcohol

My 660 is used off road on my Serow and my GS with no problems, never had a worry

Mine survived a 40mph ish crash, where the bike slammed down HARD on one side, then went upsidedown and slammed down on the other side. The gouges on the GIVI topbox bear this out.

The RHS switch gear was totalled, the brake lever and master cylinder were ripped off. There were some heroic deep gouges in the rocker covers, despite the engine bars and touratwat head guards. One pannier was ripped off.

The insurance assessor claimed the frame was bent, despite me telling him there was no frame.

If you look carefully, you can see my Zumo 660 STILL IN IT'S CRADLE. It's now on my replacement 1200GS.

I think the cradle is very secure.

No problems with the standard cradle and had put it through some rough terrain.

I would buy a TT cradle only to save me having to take it out every time I go for fuel etc.

With my homemade mount, I can fit a padlock if I wish to for extra security. I have never bothered though.
