My 660 has decided not to turn on today all it does is show the garmin screen for about 5 seconds then shuts down.
If i put it on charge it keeps trying to start over and over again.
I have tried a rest by holding the bottom right corner of the screen when turning it in and it makes no difference.
If i hold the power button when turning on the garmin logo stays on for about 20 seconds then the unit turns off.
It warns about the battery missing if I try to power up when on charge and also if the back cover is not on when i try to start it on the battery.
The last thing I did before it stopped working was set a route for the next day and might not have turned it off.
Sorry for the long post but I dont have internet all the time and have tried to give as much info as I can.
Thanks in advance Steve

is the power button jammed with muck?

commonish problem, and happened to me with similar symptoms. i found waggling it so it moved more freely helped.

Tried the battery off for about a hour Ihave just had the battery tested at a Trimph dealer I woll try the button thanks

Return to Garmin if you can, we suffered the same issue and have received a replacement today - took 3 days from sending to them so very efficient service.

Must be a problem with France, mine broke down there also. I like my 660, when its working its great, however constant reboots, satellite acquisition and sound problems mean I am now on my 3rd.
On a positive note they are very fast to replace it.

Don't say that :blast

I'm leading a group to the Cévennes and back, setting off on Friday. Will have the Michelin regional maps in my panniers as back-up so I suppose I will just have to be grateful for the opportunity for an unexpected adventure  :D

Back in the UK now and trying to sort this zumo 660 out I poped in to a BMW dealer in Belgium on the way home and they said its the battery but did not have one to sell or try. Before I buy a new battery I have tested the voltages from the battery with the following results.
Starting as contact 1 nearest the end of the battery.
positive lead on number 1

1 and 2 2.32v
1 and 3 3.95v
1 and 4 3.99v

I would be grateful if a fellow Gser could test a battery from a working Zumo 660 to see if my battery is giving a different result.

Thanks in advance Steve

Little bump on this I could do with someone posting the voltages from their battery before I commit to buy a new one just to confirm my battery is faulty Thanks Steve

Tried a different battery today same problem so contacted Garmin £120 for exchange unit, not good on a unit less than 3 years old and only used a few time a month.

The problem with infrequent use is that the warranty runs out before you know it, almost best to use these things daily just to reassure yourself its working.

My 660's been to France many times (eastern and alps areas) and been fine but in central Norway last week it went into night mode in the day and I had to force it into day mode manually for the rest of the trip. Oddly, my mate's Garmin (different type - can't remember what) did the same thing at the same spot. Mine's OK now it's back in Blighty

perhaps we should start a sticky thread of places not to go with a Zumo:thumb

Replacement turned up today very quick turn round 4 days from posting mine to Garmin. Lifetime maps transferred over and all updated and working fine lets hope this one lasts.
