Okay, I bought a secondhand Zumo 660 last year from a fellow Tosser. Tonight I decided to finally connect it to my computer (Mac), register it in my name, check for map updates etc (it's loaded with City Navigator Europe 2010). All was going swimmingly, I downloaded the latest Garmin Communicatorplugin for Mac, created an account with Garmin, the Zumo was detected, then I clicked to upgrade the system software and followed the on-screen instructions - disconnect the device from the computer, manually turn it off then back on again etc. Trouble is, when I went to re-connect to the Mac there's a message on the Zumo screen saying System Software missing and now it won't do jack shit - Mac won't detect it, Garmin software won't detect it...

Anyone else had this prob and know of a solution.

Time for me to Google... :blast

Hi ,
possible solutions include....

try a different USB cable - odd but has been reported to work

Soft reset: If your unit "freezes" you can restart it by turning it on while pressing the [ + ] button (top left hard button. This wil force it to restart. No data is lost
Take the battery out: For some issues it is necessary to take out the battery for at least 10 minutes. This is often the cure for the "dead Zumo syndrome"

Hard reset (total user data delete)

To perform the reset:
Turn off the unit
Keep your finger firmly pressed on the bottom right corner of the touch screen
While keeping it pressed, turn the unit back on
After a little while (30 sec?) you get a question on the screen "do you want to erase all user data" > Select "Yes"
All data like routes and waypoints, plus your personal settings are now reset.
After startup you can re-import all routes and favourites again, and/or place the archive files back

Give Garmin a ring - they have been very helpful to me in the past when they eventually answer.....

Or just wait for the gps god on here that is Bumpkin! If he can't help then you have a problem lol :thumb

Cheers Jav. I just got off the phone to Garmin. Funny how all operators can be busy when you phone 2 minutes after the lines open - but I did get through eventually and I'm sending the unit back today so they can reinstall the system software. :thumb
