This could be a stupid question.....

Can I put custom made route's on the memory card? I dont have anything on it at the moment. The memory in the sat nav must be getting full with all the planned trips this year.....:)

Ive only ever planned a route using a paper map and plotted the roads onto the sat nav.

Yes :thumb2

When I do it I put "SD" in front of routes that are on it, so when the 660 asks if I want to import data, I know where they're coming from.

BTW if going on a long trip with lots of days routes I also add the prefix of x1, x2, x3 etc and then y1, y3, y3 etc for there and back.

When i plan a route on 'custom routes', it doesnt ask if i want to store it on the memory card though?

Yes you can put custom routes on the SD card so you can share it and as a backup. Regardless you must import it into the device. Make sure you format the card as per the Garmin instructions (I believe MS-DOS). The Garmin is a good device but can go crazy every now and then so be sure to carry a backup (either SD card or laptop) on long trips. Also make sure you break long trips into segment as sometimes a bug can get into the route and you have to ditch the whole thing.

Ok guys thanks.....

So if I dont have a laptop handy i cant store a custom route on the memory card.

Well you can share routes by "where to" - "custom routes" - select the route you want to store on the memory card - "share" - select which one(s) that you want to and the "export" and the 660 should tell you that "the data has been saved on the memory card".

Mapsource doesn't see them if you try and "receive from device" but if you go the file - open etc etc route then it does.

On the Zumo 550 and 220 the simplest way is to make a folder on the card \Garmin\GPX. Stick the SD card directly in the PC or connect the Zumo+card via USB so that the card appears as a drive letter in Windows Explorer.

In Mapsource, use File, Save As and save the routes as a .GPX file. Copy the GPX file direct to the \garmin\gpx folder on the card using Windows Explorer.

Use the Zumo menu to import the routes. The Zumo will probably recognise that there are new routes and offer to import them automatically on start-up. I can't remember the way to import manually - look for My Data or Custom Routes or something like that.

I'm almost certain that this method works on the 660 as well as the 220 and 550.

BTW, you can have dozens of route files and hundreds of routes on the SD card, ready to import at any time into the memory of the GPS.
