Zumo 660 Version 3.80 as of may 17 2010

This afternoon I posted a letter (that's a letter, not an e-mail!!) to Sean Biddlecombe, General Manager of Garmin Europe in which I listed all the problems recorded in this thread (and elsewhere) and suggesting that it's below the expected standard that Garmin have not fully beta-tested this release and appear to be doing nothing to fix the problems they now deny exist.

had the same problem with the unit shutting down within about 30 - 60 seconds. decided it must be a song problem as it worked ok with no sd card in but switched off again when i loaded my music onto the zumo memory. so i formatted the card and split my songs into files of 10. i then loaded each file onto the card and tried it each time to make sure it was staying on. when i got to file 11 (song's 101 - 110) the zumo was back to switching off again. i then deleted songs 1 by 1 from file 11, trying each time and found that 2 songs were at fault, don't know why as they worked ok before the update !!! i have now loaded 180+ tracks on and all seems to be ok, hope it continues to be ok, going to mugello this week !!!

I've just spent a week in The Black Forest using the 3.80 update with my 660 and Schuberth SRC.

It rebooted 3 times during the week and this seemed to coincide with it carrying out some intensive operations (approaching a big city with music playing, navigating and traffic announcements).

The traffic reception is much better than before. I noticed this going in and out of London for a couple of days before I left. It now seems to have traffic on every journey (daily commute) whereas previously I'd hear a traffic announcement maybe once per week.

However, the first word of every instruction or traffic announcement coming through the SRC now seems to be missing. e.g. should be "In two kilometers..." now is heard as "two kilometers..." and "There is traffic ahead" now is heard as "Affic ahead"

No problems being linked to my iPhone 3GS and I like the more map view.

In the 'other place' one user has tracked down his Shut Down problem to one MP3, so it maybe that MP3's that are slightly corrupt (no, not just the Sex Pistols) could be some of the problem .

Had no probs, so far, on the bike but last weekend took a trip to West Wales in the car and experienced a few bugs:

Power off after several recalcs (intentionally going 'off route')

Power off after trying to access track log stats (cannot access at all)

Also, when listening to MP3 via speaker, route directions come through at two distinct volumes, whisper or SHOUT!! usually alternately as we approached a turn (whisper > SHOUT > whisper, I had it set for whisper)

I've also experienced the inability to drag the map with a finger or pointer, jumping instead to 'save position' screen

Still think it's a leap in the right direction, but roll on 3.9 :augie

Hi

Mine shuts down with or without card. As soon as I plug it into the bike, it shuts down in about 30=60 sec. If it is not plugged (i.e car, etc), no problems.

I am so glad i never updated my 660

Garmin rang me!!!

They want my Zumo back to see the fault themselves and will send out a new replacement in return.

If it helps

I have just had a warrenty swap of my 660.

Sent a new one running v3.7 which has quite a lot of features in 3.8 including map music key, speed limit sign on map screen etc.

Interesting that they are sending out units with 3.7 on and not 3.8 - I wonder why?.....

i would imagine it's just the stock they have and nothing sinister. :)
it would be a nightmare to update all the garmin products every time there is an update :eek

as on the web site there is no mention of 3.7 the changes show 3.5 to 3.8. What happened to 3.7....it's probably been superceded by 3.8 as it was full of bugs.......:D:D

My 3.7 unit works a treat, no power offs, no probs with mp3's etc.

Basically 3.4 reliability with the extra features - guess they saved the bugs all for v3.8!!!!:clap

Ive just got back from a weeks touring in Europe and no major problems, sometimes a word was missing from the directions.

No shutdowns, music turned of once but not the maps or unit, when i spoke to Garmin last week i was told a another new version is due out early June and suggested i reload 3.5 but the web address they gave me was wrong :augie so went ahead to Europe with the 3.8.

Toy town colours

Well after I updated the software the Balkan maps have changed colour and the roads are blue same as rivers and the towns are green like woods and the buttons now turn a funny orange when you push them. Rest of Europe is still the same as before. Only other prob is I have to keep taking the sd card out and back in for the mp3 player to see the mp3s.

Sounds like my unit, 3.8 plus mp3's but no problems.

3.7 might be bug free, or it's just a numbers thing, as lots of 3.8 users are problem free too. If there were more 3.7 users out there there might be reports of problems with it too ?

I wanted to give the GPS co-ordinates of a favourite to someone t'other day.

How the heck do I find those co-ordinates to pass on :nenau

View the favourite in Mapsource.

Move cursor over point on map.

Coordinates are at the bottom of the screen.

OK ... maybe a bit off topic :nenau

Sure others will want to know.

That's OK if you're at the computer, but out on the road? Creating a new favourite, and click save, comes up with the co-ordinates. An already listed favourite it just tells you it's already saved :rob

Doesn't look like you can do it Mick. If you're giving the location to someone who's got another Bluetooth enabled Garmin, it's easy - you just go to the Favourite > Share > Bluetooth.

Failing that, you'd have to drag the map to the location and then touch the favourite to bring up the co-ordinate.
