Zumo 660 Version 3.80 as of may 17 2010

I don't think you could do it in earlier versions either.

But here's a neat work around.

Bring up the map.

Scroll it or whatever to display the Favourite.

Touch it where the Favourite is.

Touch Set location. The device will now think that is where you are.

Touch Back

Touch Menu

Touch Tools

Touch Where am I?

Coordinates will appear, along with nearest address and junction details (assuming there are any)

There must be a difference. The 660 is vastly superior (and cheaper).

On the 660 you use it for plotting routes, starting from somewhere other than where you are.

For instance, say you were in Edinburgh, the 660 would show you as being there. But say you wanted to plot a route from Glasgow to Inverness, whilst sat in Edinburgh.

On the 660 you would bring up your fictitious Glasgow location and tap the Set location tab. The device would then 'think' you are in Glasgow. Then it's a simple task to ask it to 'Go' (plot a route, in other words) to Inverness.

I think the only other way to do it on the 660 would be to ask it to plot a route: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and then edit out the Edinburgh to Glasgow leg.



I just fooled it into giving me the coordinates of a Favourite (my parent's house in France) whilst sat in central London, using the method in #101 above.

It showed:

N 43 53'22.3"

E005 17'40.6"

Elev: 9m

Nearest address: Ancien Chemin de Roussillon a Bonnieux (They live up a track)

Nearest junction: D149 and D108

8422 Rousillon, 84.


I then pumped the coordinates into the device. Bingo! Right on top of the old man's maison.

On the Nav IV : Tools > Custom Routes > New > Add New Start Point > Select > Add New End Point > Select > Next (option to add intermediate waypoints) = Calculating Route (Back, Turn Review & Save [Faster Time, Shorter Distance, Off Road options] options).

I think that's because you missed the "Set Location" step.

You have to turn on GPS Simulator, then it will allow you to do the Set Location trick and find your Co-ords

Well if that clown Wapping had said that you have to turn off the GPS rather than being more interested in trying to prove that his cheaper and inferior Zumo was somehow better than my überGPS, I'd have found it the first time.......

I am about to leave for a trip to Morocco and just loaded a route through france and spain using mapsource. Now when I turn on the Zumo 660 is just hangs or shuts down after 10 seconds or so. I just loaded the latest software to see if that fixed anything but no. I have tried holding power button for 8 seconds as per instructions but no dice.
Does anyone have some advice?
I am fairly desperate as was meant to leave this morning and have 4 weeks planned so any help gratefully received.

Contact Garmin support at the first opportunity. Until Friday, they didn't acknowledge this problem exists at all. The more people that contact them the quicker they will produce a fix.

I'm 99.9% sure that the shutdown problem is something to do with the SD card and/or what's on the SD card.

Garmin have confirmed to me that the v3.80 software will support a 16Gb card.

Do you really need the routes? Can you not simply dial in Algerciras (or wherever you're going) and follow that route?

If you really want to go by a special route, delete the route from your Zumo. Take out the SD card from the unit and delete a folder called 'Garmin'. Try loading waypoints instead and have the Zumo calculate the route from waypoint to waypoint.

To restart your Zumo, take out the SD card and reinstall the battery without the card. Start the GPS and wait until it finds the satellites. Turn off and reinsert the SD card and battery and turn on again. That should work.

... Start the GPS and wait until it finds the satellites. Turn off and reinsert the SD card and battery and turn on again. That should work.

I have the 3.8 and use a 16 GB card. The Zumo has had problems at start up, (and the steps Greg lists has helped me as well to get it up and running). The other day it failed in me after loosing signal in a tunnel - leading me to suspect is has something to do with either gps satelite search/calculation of new position with the card running, or just to much work in general overwhelming the little bugger

I've had word from Garmin.

Someone else has also sent one back with the same shutdown problem and they can't replicate it with that either.

They know there is a problem as they have seen this video:

They would send me a new unit but they don't have any stock. So mine's being sent back to me. I'll bet I can replicate the problem. If I can, I feel a trip to Southampton to see the MD will be on the cards.

One other issue I'm now getting is it claiming it cannot find any MP3 files on the SD card, only the sample audible files are found. One or more power cycles seems to cure it.

I'm going to reformat the card tonight and reload all the files (approx. 6 gigs worth on an 8GB card) to see if that helps at all.
