Zumo 660 Version 3.80 as of may 17 2010

On a brighter note; I've solved the bug where it constantly thinks it needs a software update from the updater app and My Garmin dashboard. :)

Re: Did it again

1 Rider,

Same here. With or without card, it turns off every minute or so. The other day last for 10 minutes...until started to do the same.
No problems in the car or out of the bike mount though.

Regards

O.

I went to Garmin in Southampton today and have come away with a brand new Zumo 660 preloaded with v3.80.

Guess what? It also shuts down.

FYI - I spoke to "Musa" at Garmin and he said he hadn't heard of this problem before (really??). Recommended I did a master reset, reload the 3.80 and try again. I really don't have time to "try again" so put 3.50 courtesy of GoosePilot and all is well. I'll wait for 3.90 :)

Real shame as I thought 3.80 was a really big improvement in lots of ways big and small.

cheers

I've now spent 3 weeks working with Garmin on this v3.80 shutdown issue. They have had my Zumo 660 all of that time (I've now got a new one) - but they cannot sort the problem and my new unit also shuts down.

At their recommendation, I have now rolled back to v3.50 and am just updating the mapping on the new unit.

I suspect that Garmin are working pretty hard behind the scenes to sort this and I have been told that a new software release is not far away. I just wish they would be a little more transparent about the issue.

Greg

(again) Roll on 3.9? I guess we're now aware that Garmin perceive their paid-up :augie customers as crash-test-dummies and un-paid software test-pilots :blast

I just hope that all this trial and tribulation finally leads to a dog's b*ll*cks of an ace sat nav!!!!

I live in hope

(glad I didn't sell my 2610.. shame there're no new maps for that :rob)

Sadly, the paying customer as beta-tester seems to be par for the course in today's software-driven personal electronic equipment marketplace. :(

Greg, my 660 is running 3.8 and, at the moment, seems to be working fine. I'm using it this weekend but if you like I'm happy to post you my 660 for you to try on your motorcycle mount (and if you wish post me yours for me to try on mine) alternatively we could meet up on the bikes and swap - I'm in Gloucester.

Rob

Kind offer but I've already had two 660s with v3.80 and they both fail.

It's something to do with the SD card contents (not the card itself as I've swapped them) and when the unit is searching for satellites.

As I say, I've wound back to v3.50 and I'll wait until they bring out some new software.

Thanks again for the offer.

God I hope so as 3.80 has some really nice improvements, but keeping with 3.50 for now as I need to load routes :)

cheers

I also had loads of problems with 3.8 so downgraded to 3.5.
This really pi##es me off, why the hell can't a big player like Garmin get their feckin software tested before releasing it, it wouldn't be hard based on the fact that the problems start with 3.8 within minutes of installing it!
I also had a missing junction icon, the one for 'take the exit' when on a motorway or dual carriageway, the result was no prompt and nothing displayed on the screen.
The only reason I stick with Garmin is because I love Mapsource, if TomTom upped their game a bit I would jump ship in a blink.

Greg

Mine shuts down with and without card.
So it has to be something else?
It used to shut down just when it was on the bike. Now it does all the time.
I am back to 3.5.

Any email address where we can send our feedback to Garmin?

Thanks

O.

Greg, if this relates to an email address of a bod collecting evidence on the latest software problems, may i have a copy please.

I do not use a micro-card but am having assorted other problems. None life threatening, touch wood.

Intermittent shut downs. Seems to be linked to when the device is hunting hard for satellites, almost as if it is over loaded??

Problems reviewing routes.

Bizarre 'find nearest to current route' results.

Etc. etc.

Shame as the rest of the current software was a good improvement. Pity too that GPSonaPan (Mike) is no longer around.

Thanks,

Richard

660

Gone back to 3.5 no SD card still shuts down. In France at the moment so no 660 on the way home. Back to maps.
