Zumo and Autocom

... As a result Autocom seem now to recommend 1314 for Zumo music into Aux2 and 1273 for bluetooth phone into Aux1 on their current systems.

And there's the rub for that little lot is offensively expensive:

Zumo £375
Autocom Kit £250
Part 1314 £28
Part 1299 £70??

Its no wonder I'm doing it slightly differently,

Zumo £335 (Halfords Deal)
Scala Rider Bluetooth Headset £35 (2nd hand from here)
iPod (already owned)
iClick RF Remote Control £10 (2nd hand from here)
UE 75 QT Monitors (Christmas Pressie from the boss of UE :D)

Monitors into iPod and lugholes
Blackberry Bluetoothed into Zumo
Zumo Bluetoothed to Scala Rider

Music from iPod playing and controlled from handlebar mounted remote, incoming call, pause iPod take call, end call, resume music.

Voice prompts and phone levels controlled at Zumo and/or Scala headset. Music level controlled at iClick remote.

At the moment the lovely Autocom Pro AVI Duo kit is sitting in the bike with nothing to do right now and even with a little bit of discount I'm going to struggle to justify another £100 which won't add anything more to what I already have in terms of control.

Until pillion or bike2bike necessitates a change that is :(

Rich,

Thanks for taking time to write the comments.

You are right, I haven't given you the chance to have a look at the system so I will do that. Can you book me in on a saturday? That's the only day I can make it up to your site. I know you may not be opened on Saturdays currently, but you will do later in year. I can wait and hope it is before I go away again in June on the bike.

My frustration is that the system as it is configured and installed on my bike by an official dealer (of yours) does not work to the standard that you advertise it. I have just come back from said dealer on Monday where we went on a test ride at 20MPH around London streets. It worked ok but with all bits on FULL volume it is still very poor quality I am getting on the headphones. ON the way home, I got a call from my brother. I was able to answer the call, but the sound level for him and me were disappointing. The moment I hit the M4, the sound level from the ipod and Garmin became almost zero. My heart just sank as it happened. I am really sad that it does not work.

You said that I was too quick to put your system down .. I was not able to use the equipment on my holiday and now having revisited the dealer to have it checked, it is still not working. How would you feel? :nenau

I really hope it is something simple like "user error". Then I can make use of the system with a Kenwood receiver on my trip in June!

If I call you number, do I need to ask for someone specific (like you)? Or do I just book it with whoever answers the phone :nenau

Let's get this sorted so I can start singing praises about your product. Rather than feeling a bit crap for spending the money.

We normally only carry out bike and helmet fits on Saturday mornings but if you are free on the 19th of this month that is the morning I am in so I could have a look at your set up. But you will need to confirm with me ASAP to get you booked in as the Saturdays are getting snapped up very quikly.

I am here from 9-12 and the latest that I would be able to book you in would be around 10ish to give me enough time on your bike. It might be something nice and simple that might only take a few mins but we always like to be nice and safe on time scales.

Then I am sure that you will be riding away happy like all of our other customers.

Rich,

Thanks for getting back so promptly! :thumb2

Unfortunately I am on a work conference that weekend :(

The weekend before or after would be ok for me. I have been to your site once so I should find it without getting lost this time

Can you fit me in on those saturdays? :nenau

By the way .. I really do want to be a happy customer :bounce1 :bounce1

Cheers,
Tom

Best of luck Novice, your going to need it. Amazing 'innit' buy a product, doesn't work and YOU have to go to them!

What would you do if it was telly!!!

Don't know about you mate but I like to be kissed first before I'm ******* !

Thank you for another worthy comment Jacal!!!!:nenau

Tom as some of the others who work on Saturdays do not really know as much as me I do not want to really book you in as I have said we are only normally here for simple fittings etc.

So you have got the choice of a week day when I am here or my next Saturday is 17th of May

Actually sounds to me this is either an install or a user problem, both of which should be sorted FOC by the supplying and fitting dealer. What is being offered by Autocom via GSrich looks to me like good will. I'm not sure why the dealer who fitted and tested thinks running it at 20MPH constitutes a satisfactory test but it sounds like a shrug off to me and I'd be banging on their door to fix or remove and refund.

Autocom kit fits and works but its ability to do so is totally reliant on a competent fit in the first place, Novice did not get this or a satisfactory outcome to returning to them.

I am with Judge on this.

There is remarkably little that can go seriously with with an Autocom setup.

I have always found the GSRich and his colleagues at the official outlet helpful and, to be fair, the people at StarCom similarly, too.

I have used Autocom devices in one shape or another for many years, often moving the unit from bike to bike to bike. They have got hot, dirty, damp and wet, vibration (and other maltreatment) not withstanding. Yet, the device has still churned out the sound. My one and only problem was when the lead to the helmet’s speakers broke, probably after 100,000 plus miles. Even this was not a sudden failure, as it was proceeded by a crackle.

You will get it fixed, Tom, never fear.

Rich,

17 May it is then.

I haven't used it since I bought it .. so a couple more weeks isn't really going to be a problem for me.

I can't do weekdays .. unless I win the lottery tonight.

Cheers,
Tom

Ok mate no problems, give me a buzz at work when you can and I will get you booked in to be safe. I will then spend as long as needed getting your system sorted. Our number is 01926 431249

Jacal,

I have always offered you help to get you sorted but if I remember correctly you have never taken us or me up on it. So how are we suppose to help you along if you are not willing to help yourself! You seem very quick to put us down all of the time on here and if you read other peoples comments we or I must be doing something right.

I have been reading this post with interest as I currently have a Garmin 2610, phone connected via a BT dongle and iPod connected to a 300 Pro Avi Rider kit which all works well. Can I just say at this point that I had a couple of probems initially but a phone call to Rich sorted that!

I have just ordered a Garmin Zumo as I have a buyer for the 2610 and am looking forward to using the iPod built into the Zumo, so that I can control what I listen to as the ipod set up I have has the ipod under the seat and I just have to listen to whatever comes on next!! I detect on here that there are problems with sound quality and stereo??? If I want to use the built in ipod AND hear it in stereo, what are the best connections?

I wrongly assumed that I would no longer need the BT dongle with the Zumo, but it appears that I do?? From reading these posts, am I right in saying that the Zumo is connected to the Autocom via Bluetooth rather than simply hard wired?? Why is this done and what is the advantage over hard wiring? I again assumed that it would be hard wired and that my phone was simply paired with the Zumo??

Hope that above question is clear??

So for you then mate if you are wanting to run a phone via the Zumo you would run the below. If no phone drop the Part 1273 and just run the Part 1314 for the GPS audio.

Aux 1, 1x Part 1273 Bluetooth phone dongle to supply the phone side of the Zumo

Aux 2, 1x Part 1314 Isolated music lead to supply the GPS prompts also have the auto volume on there

Aux 3, Use the standard music lead that comes with the Kit 300 for the ipod for full stereo sound and use the auto volume feature

Rich :beerjug:

Silver rat, there are numerous threads about this. The best way to connect a phone to the 550 is via the bluetooth dongle. For decent stereo music, you then connect an isolated stereo lead from the zumo to autocom. Reason being the auto mute facility. Check out the Zumo Forums.

Sorry Guys, I am not normally thick, honest but.....if the best way to connect my phone by bluetooth is via the 1273 dongle, that is connected into aux 1 of the Autocom, that means to me that the phone is connecting to the zumo via the Autocom and not directly with the Zumo??

So in effect, it is basically the same set up as the 2610 but my understanding is that the Zumo has bluetooth, so why do I not pair my phone directly with the Zumo?

I am maybe just thinking too deep, better wait till it arrives!!

Rich,

Just called and booked myself in for 17 May. Please check that it is ok :thumb2

Think of the Zumo as the Hub for that bit of the set-up...Pair the phone to the Zumo and the Auocom to the Zumo.....job done.

The Zumo will display who's calling on your incoming calls as it downloads your phonebook from your phone when it boots up....handy bit of kit also makes dialing out easy too, no numbers to key on, just look it up on the touch screen and hit 'dial'...:thumb2

The help you offered , for what it was worth! was for me to travel to you, a return journey of some considerable miles and a full day of MY time, for you to cut some specific wire so the mute facility didn't work, thus rendering the bloody thing useless. This is after you had taken my money for the system itself, then had the gaul to sell me TWO bloody leads that you said would sort out the problem, they didn't !!!

Oh and lets see this remarkable help that you keep giving! Could it be that it's because everyone that buys your product has trouble!!! Just read the amount of threads asking for help.

Where do people like you get the nerve to sell something for hundreds of pounds then expect the customer to go out of HIS way to have it fixed. oh and seeing as we have been here before, you well know that all I am saying can be backed up with previous posts.... DO A SEARCH guys.

So Rich you seem to have a problem with customers that complain, it looks like you don't like it....'We'll' Think you better get used to it mate! I don't take kindly to company's taking money of me for goods not fit for purpose, so I will tell all and sundry of what my experience has been from you and your so called company....

Ohhh and by the way this not the only site I belong to!

Me Bitter....whatever gave you that idea!!

Autocom....Go shove it where the sun don't shine!!!!

Confused.... That's me!

Hi folks,

looking at getting the most RELIABLE system for me and t'pillion.

looking at new phone / satnav and open to the best advice we as USERS can give.

Currently want to hook pillion to music to satnav and phone in "used whilst stationary mode".

Pretty much a blank sheet. Ideas ?

Also, anyone got experience of hooking all that into a camera kit ?http://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/smilies/aidan.gif
