just took the plunge and splashed out on a zumo 550. Question is is there a splitter cable available(maplin?) to save me unscrewing the power cable ea time I remove the ram mount for security?

Could you not put an inline connector in - possibly a waterproof one?

I just mounted a socket on the beak, and shortened the cable before putting a plug on it

Something like this should do ya:

£2.39 each for the male and female from Maplin.

Is it a KTM 950/990 you got? If so, you can get a accessory socket which fits onto the cockpit and plugs into the acc socket on the RHS of the headstock as well.

Something like this should do ya:

Exactly what I have, splits the power cable just 'south' of the audio jack. They're called Tamiya connectors. Solder the black and red wires to the connectors pins, ignore the others, they run the full length of the cable* but are only connected between the cradle and the audio jack.

* Ran full length for both my Quest and SP 2720 power cables, I imagine that the Zumo will be similar.
