Driving along with my 660 in the car cradle and it makes a loud crackly bangy noise and then shut itself down. Restarted ok but silent now...no spoken route guidance and no music.
I've just upgraded last week to software v4.2
Reset but no joy....any advice from you knowledgeable folks or does it need to go back to Garmin..?:nenau

Yup. Been there done that. Try deleting all the extra voices first and see how that goes. Then do webupdater. If no joy send back for RMA. They sent a brand new one plus all the extra kit which I dumped on the site.

Had similar imtermittent problem with mine over past couple of years, LOUD crackle from speaker, even when audio muted, for a few seconds. Never proceeded to shutdown though. Can't wait for that

A couple of times it has proceeded to a banshee-like shreek that has scared the heck out of me! Luckily only in the car and not through headphoned in-lid. That would be dangerous.

I'd thought it was a faulty connection on the speaker, but the fact others are experiencing the same makes it sound like a hardware/software/design fault?

Problem with intermitent faults is Garmin not able to reproduce them in-the-lab :nenau

I have experienced exactly the same issue as Cogs - the first time was about 3 weeks ago while using it in a car mount where I nearly drove off the road I got such a fright

Now I'm getting all sorts of issues where the unit won't boot up and just says "Garmin" on the screen and won't progress - I remove battery for a few minutes (power button won't work in this case) and put back together - same thing - repeat about 5 times and suddenly hey presto it works again.

On the weekend I was nervous to turn off the bike as I was green laning on an unknown route when this happened .........at least I was only on lanes - I would trust this for an epic adventure right now.

I haven't updated anything for about 6 months and this is the first spot of trouble I've ever had.

Suggestions appreciated.

Hi!

Nice to know it's not just me (not) with regards the banshee sound effects. No sign of a cure from me I'm afraid. With regards your problems with start up and freezing at the dim 'GARMIN' stage, I had that problem persistently after updating to 4.2.

I've now resoved that (so far ??) as folows:

Hook up 660 to PC. go to site 'index of /Perry/Zumo 660 (http://www.gawisp.com/perry/zumo/) and click on last OS listed (3.5.exe).

Allow to download to 660 and you've effectively 'downgraded' the OS. Then go to 'My Garmin' and re-update to 4.2. Seemed to clear my issues. For now anyway.
