Going to scrap my Tom Tom, and go to Zumo. Can someone please advise/point as to what to go for.

Still a lot of life in the trusty 660, and extra cradles are easy to come by - secondhand.

If you are buying new - don't be put off my overhauled ones (from the right supplier) and if you see a Zumo with "LM" after it - it is "lifetime mapping" - and check out the prices from Handtec. They tend to be the cheapest supplier in UK and are often just a few ££ more than what some chancers list on forums - for used units,

Moved from Travel.

First buy GPS, then go travelling.... :D

PS As bove, 660 :thumb2 An excellent device.

Route planning on a Garmin unit can initially be frustrating until you get to grips with it. What you have planned on the computer doesn't always translate onto the device as you expect, the trick is all in the settings. Have a look in the helpful how-to's in the GPS section of the forum.

I found that running Basecamp on a Mac seems to be much smoother than on a PC, perhaps Garmin write their software on a Mac then port it across to PC ?

My old Zumo 660 is a bit long in the tooth now but still does what I need it to, but if I was in your position I would be looking at a Zumo 590LM (assuming they can be had for a decent price). The 590 screen is much better, and you can also easily share routes via bluetooth with other suitably equipped riders. With the 660 you need to mess about with microSD cards or plug into a computer to do the same.

Had a Zumo 550, then 660 and now 590. 660 is the best sorted unit at the mo, but the 590 has much better features on it, and the updates to firmware are getting there.

590LM if you want to stretch to it, but nothing wrong with the 660.

Got a 390. Excellent bit of kit much cheaper than the 590, but no MP3s - not an issue for me. And can't be turned through 90 degrees to portrait layout.
On offer at the moment widely at under £300.
The old Mapsource software is simple and intuitive unlike its replacement Basecamp.

Not sure if this is a consideration or not but the 660 will fit directly in to a BMW factory fitted mount, common on highly spec'd LC bikes.

I like an mp3 player option so have to look at 395 for latest version or a 660 I guess for the old trusted do it....can;t spunk 500 quid on a sat nav
