zumo550 versus tomtom1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi chaps
have been pondering for weeks or maybe longer having read all the threads is it a good thing to change from tt1 for zumo550.
what would i have that is better?
very confused and unsure.
help needed guys please

ta very much in advance
bob
ps think i posted original thread on wrong page, hope this right

Zumo v Rider

Amongst the extra functions on the Zumo 550 would be:-

Car and bike mounts plus RAM mount in the box.
Maps for Europe and a some Eastern block countries.
Bike dash board with compass, speedo and fuel guage set by distance.
More internal memory and expandible for music/routes/pictures etc. via SD card.
Exchange (import/export) routes with other Zumo users via an SD card, so only one person needs to plan the route.
Compass function, not sure why you would need it but its there.
Internal MP3 player.
Picture viewer plus I think there is someway you can match the picture with the location by time but I will have to check up on that.
Altitude readout.
Trip distance, maximum speed, average speed, moving time, stopped time etc. are all logged internally.
The Zumo 550 also logs where you have been and can be overlaid on Google Earth/Google maps when you get home...cool feature if you ask me.

Not sure of all the features of both units but I chose the Zumo 550 because the spec. was a lot higher than the Rider 1 as was the price but you get what you pay for.
If you don't think you will use the extra features then stick with the Rider 1 or 2.
I actually like the Tomtom maps and the way it operates but was not impressed with how basic the Tomtom riders were for the money.

:thedummythanks for the info DAF
I think i will have to go zumo co's i fancy all the features.
Please dont feel bad that you have made me spend a whole pile of cash:thedummy:beerjug:

cheers

Get a Zumo at Halfords...quick

OK, I won't feel guilty then :).

I have just seen a thread on the site saying that Halfords are having a 10% sale tomorrow or maybe over the weekend, this brings the price down to about £333 instead of £370...could be worth getting out of bed early to get one, good luck.

Mapsource

Hi gang
first time this week i have learnt to use mapsource
dont be frightened of it
get someone who knows how to use it and run a few trips through it
its great
with sat navs you get basically two options
fast route - likes motorways
quick route - almost as crow flies
but with mapsorce you go the way you want to go
just use the route tool
when finished just upload direct to zumo via pc
you can even view your chosen route through google earth
so IMHO Zumo 550 every time :thumb2
