Help!

Couldn't find this problem mentioned,

When trying to awaken my bike from it's winter hibernation I got a noise like a hammer action drill coming from my starter motor. The engine doesn't turn over during this noisy aborted start.

I'm off out to pull the thing off, check for free rotation and also try and turn the engine over by hand to make sure nothing is seized in there.

While I'm gone I'd appreciate any suggestions.

For info-
2002 1150,
Battery was flat, just charged when I tried to start it.
All lights come on and pumps start as they used to.

Cheers!

Looks like it's not the throttle cable then....tempting as it is to give red herring tech advise to reds:augie

Thanks for not taking the piss too much.

Pulled the starter for good measure and gave it a once over. All is good with the world in there, just a bit dusty. Lubed and re assembled, same problem. Thanks to the starter strip guide on here it was a piece of cake.

I'll try jumping it off my car in the morning and if it starts I'll get a fresh battery.

Serves me right for being a tight arse and not buying a trickle charger. :blast

I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers,

Had the same issue this morning - my battery had finally died.

Quick trip to Vines in the car, new battery fitted and all is well :)

Yup, dead battery.

Turned over with the jump leads on the car so headed out to pick up a new battery. Started and ran fine with that in place. Looks like it was still on the original BMW battery so it was due for changing.

Thanks for the help, :thumb2

Matt.
