I've, for the first time, planned and uploaded a route from my mapsource (Beta 6.12) onto my SP2720.
When I viewed the route on my 2720 I received a message on the lines of : "the route does not match the maps (NT V9), do you want to recalculate?"
So, I did. It then says "route to long, will recalculate nearer the destination"
The unit shows the waypoints, but it doesn’t show the (purple) route from three quarters of the end (the recalculation nearer the destination :nenau )
So, is this normal, and more importantly, the route will appear as I get nearer on the actual trip?
Any help would be appreciated as I don’t want it to let me down on the trip.

It maybe that you have loaded the maps to your GPS with an older version of Mapsource, then loaded your routes with the newer Beta version.

Yah, i thought that may be the problem, i will now delete it all, re-plot and upload using the mapsource that came with the unit:thumb
Thanks Ebbo

If you're making a multi-day trip, and have plotted a single route to cover several days you might have reached the limit for the number of waypoints that can be used. When you use Mapsource and the drag n drop feature to plot a route, 'invisible waypoints' are inserted, and there is a limit on how many can be used in one route (I think I read a figure of 500 somewhere). Break the route into daily sections (or shorter) and the problem is avoided.

Ive broken the route into two, down (Monte Casino) and back up, and it does seem to have corrected the problem of size. I have re-plotted the route in my normal mapsource. I uploaded both the routes. The down route was complete. But the return route was shown on the list, but was not on the map, and neither were the waypoints. I did notice that the unit turns off automatically once the data is transferred. The time it didn’t, the route was sent complete. So I don’t know what is going on.:nenau

When you transfer data, there's a check box in the 'transfer data' dialogue to turn the GPS unit off once data transfer is complete. I don't think this is the source of your problem though - full data transfer takes place whether this box is checked or not. Check the routes again in Mapsource - perhaps the return didn't recalculate after the making changes or something similar.

This indictates that the mapping data version used to construct the route on MapSource is not the same as the mapping data version on the SP2720

Not relevant with an SP2720 as all the map data is pre-loaded on the GPSR (unless you're using supplementary mapping). Nige, I take it that you did the full upgrade install of CN9 NT to your SP2720? If so, you should only see a reference to CN9 NT on the GPSR's cartography selection page. Also, the upgrade install should have made the cartography available to MapSource. Unless you deliberately uninstalled the CN8 NT cartography from your PC there will be a cartography selection drop down list on the MapSource toolbar. Make sure that you have CN 9NT selected when you create the routes and also when you transfer them to your SP2720.

I have an SP2720 and can vouch that the checkbox being checked is the cause of the missing route. If this checkbox is ticked then the last route transferred always has zero destination points and is unusable. I reported this to Garmin Support some weeks ago but there has been a deafening silence from them on the matter :( The workaround is to always leave that checkbox unchecked and to manually turn off then on the GPSR once a transfer cycle is completed. By this I mean that you can select any number of routes and waypoints to transfer in one go, but you will need to cycle the power switch on the SP2720 before you initiate another transfer.

Cheers guys, Ive been successful in uploading the routes. And proof again that this site is the dogs:clap . The problem is the tick box. And the necessity to manually turn off the unit. A clitch in the operating software:rob
Thanks again guys :thumb
