Coopers in Reading, Rydale bit further down the M4 in Cardiff.

Yes i know, thats why i was taking the piss - i think i'll have to stop piss taking, and start stating the obvious

Called into Coopers on Friday (as I was passing the place anyway) and got the full gen.

They are closing at the end of Sept but it's all part of a bigger picture.... Coopers are oppening a very large dealership in Tunbridge Wells and are concentrating their efforts into getting that place up and running.

Meanwhile, in March, there will be another Motorrad dealership opening up in Reading... I got the impression that it will be part of the same group of companies as Coopers but they havent decided which "brand" they're going to use yet.

It basically means that Reading will be without for 5mths but the neighbouring Motorrad dealerships are aware & ready to take on any service work. They chose to do it between Oct & March as that's the traditional 'quiet' period.

... For non-aligned basic service Hughenden are OK, they make a point of 'keeping-up' on BMW hardware, don't know how hot they are on new 1200s though.

... but Premier have a great reputation too, but no history with the factory.

... NOG have looked after me superbly, but obviously being 'factory' the price includes coffee, biscotti and gratuitous sexual favours with every major service.

Please note that this offer is only available at the Service & Parts departments on production of a Service Handbook.....

Cooper Reading to Close... Sad to have to say it, but good. Personally I'm pleased.

It will give the bike side a chance to re-invigorate itself, address the appalling attitude to motorcycle customer service that currently pervades, plus the room to operate without the claustrophobic presence of all those metal cages on the same site.

On the people front, I hope those involved in the mechanical side of the operation find good 'homes' to go to until February. They've always seemed to do a competent job for me.

I suppose the up side is that it means the bike at least gets a good run to reach a dealer!

Whoever opens in Reading, it wont be part of the company that owns Cooper Reading. Some staff have been given their cards and others redeployed on cars. It is the customers who bought in good faith I feel sorry for, who find they havn't got a dealer now. When BMW close dealerships they normally give them a year to get their act together before they close so they probably had plenty of notice (unlike their customers). Still there still GArry Webb in Bracknell (01344 860580)

.......Rydale are ending their relationship with Motorrad too. :( ....shame,(if it's true)'cos they're a good bunch
Funny, I went there in August to collect something. If it wasn't for the younger and enthusiastic of the two Motorrad mechanics (nice bloke, very enthusiastic and chatty), I'd have reported that they were generally the least welcoming bunch of insular tw@ts I've met in a BMW dealership! (It could have been that they had lost interest if the Motorrad side is closing down but the young spannerman never mentioned it).

I used to travel (in the old days, late 80's & early 90's) to L&C to get my bikes serviced. I formed the opinion then that at solus car and bike dealers you get treated like a BM car owner instead of like a spotty oik who's buying a step-through at a multi-marque franchise.

Rydale made me change that view! :eek

Garry is a former customer of mine, who used to buy up all my very high mileage BM's and do them up and rent them to couriers. Since leaving the aircraft industry he has been a courier and home tech. Used to buy his parts from me as well, and we ended up referring people to him if their bikes were too old to be main dealer serviced. He lives in Barcknell just round the corner from BMW GB and still works on courier bikes so his work is good enough for people who depend on their bikes for a living. He can fit tyres too. His number is 01344 860 580

Popped into Coopers today after reading about the discounts available - the excuse for a human being basically told me to get lost. "Why would we sell anything discounted when we're opening another shop?" was his reply.
I can only hope that his foul mood was as a result of being told his services are no longer required.

Service manager told me today, whilst still trying to sort out my bike. Apparently from mid september they won't take any major service work. Anyone recommend a good dealer for servicing?

Steptoe's not far from Reading

Was it a Scottish guy?

Not surprised if it was. Moody and rude every time I've been in.

And we are expected to live on in hope that customer service will be soooo much better in their spanking new place... Not that they have bothered to try to inform me that (a) they were closing the old one or (b) they are opening a new one. (By the way, the response to that one when asked was "why should we tell you? !!!)

So, meanwhile, I'm taking my business elsewhere. And it is unlikely to go their new place unless their attitude significantly changes.

Yup! I've posted elsewhere how his lack of any kind of customer service led me off to NOG instead of buying from them. Totally bizarre - I am obviously very naive when it comes to the retail industry...

Hi

I tried to buy a £8200 second hand R1200GS from them. I went there on Monday so they were closed but a miss took my details so they could give me a ring.
It did not happen.
I went there when I read that they were closing down.
I could not speak to anyone.
It was one gentleman to busy to ask me if I need anything.
They do not care.

I thing that they sell so many bikes and pieces that they do not thing that they need to look after the customer.
And this not happen just there. I have been in another three dealers and I do not have a good impression from any of them.

Cheers.
