I'm not overly taken with the looks but will probably go with the OEM panniers as I'm not a fan of frames and metal boxes

Is anybody using the OEMs and how do you find them, good and bad points please?

Can't help as I went with the Nomada boxes. I don't like having the frames either, but they are easily put on or taken off in about 10 minutes. However I would like the (even easier) ease of the oe panniers tho' and I might, just might buy the oe ones even tho' they do look like bread bins.

i am buying a set of plastic bread bins from a member here, as long as the locks can be removed, but i wouldn't want to be paying list for them. best thing about them is they just go on with no frames.

i like the holans, but if i had an R, i think i'd get the KTM powerparts boxes. i have the top box and its a great bit of kit, but the panniers just don't look right unless on an R. KTM sell them a lot cheaper than touratech, especially if bought as a set when you get the bike. i think it's a Touring Pack or something.

what about these

what about these

Mmmmmm....... I've not seen those before, I quite like them and the frames really aren't too bad, quite compact compared to the usual. I'll research those a bit more and add them into the 'pot', ta.

Let me know if you get the bread bins and let me know what you think of them though as ideally I don't want frames on the bike.

I had thought about the OE boxes, but as I had a set of Givi Trekker 33's I have decided to use them with SW Motech quick release racks.
The Givis are ideal size for me and IMO they look good on the bike. The only drawback is the RH pannier sticks out a couple of inches too far for my liking, but as I only use them infrequently, I will stick with them and be more cautious when filtering.

now having read my PMs, and through no fault of corsicandreamer, i now find myself back in the pannier market myself.

hmmmmmmm.

I have the OE bread bins, use the top box regularly, panniers intermittently. They're ok, functional rather aesthetic. Some say the panniers leak in rain, mine haven't as yet...

£13799 with free Panniers, Topbox, Crashbars, Heated Grips & 0% Finance at my local dealer

That's the one :)

......and 'cos the R already has crash bars you can sub them for something of the same value which equals a bash plate.

I'm hoping to get down to my dealer today and see what sort of deal there is to be cut if I can get all my jobs sorted before they shut, if not later in the week :bounce1

if you get the bread bins, you might want the matching inner bags. the right pannier is a very odd shape indeed internally. hard to see how it can be used without the dedicated inner.

if it were me with an R, i'd get the KTM/TT ally boxes. if they suited the "basic" 1190, i'd buy them myself.

I am very close to deciding between a WC and the KTM 1190 and I think the free luggage deal is enough to tip me the KTM way. I could get my helmet in the KTM box and that is essential for me when I use the bike for work. Not convinced they would be very robust if abused off road, but they look easy to hook on and off and they will more than do for my regular riding.

Yup - I intend getting the bags for the reason you give and also it makes life so much easier loading/unloading generally.

I agree the ally boxes look better on the R than the bread bins but the clincher for me is no frames with the bread bins and for some reason I really don't like frames aesthetically when the panniers are off (which they will be 90% of the time).

i think you'd need some minimalist racking to mount soft bags on the 1190 due to the flared bodywork. the price in my link includes that :)

just seen these - cheap and cheerful.

Also found these on e bay for much the same price with a buy it now and make offer option, I made an offer and got them for £240, no stickers going on my new panniers then........;)
