There you go, thats the simplest truth here, no shame in that :JB

Now to continue with the progress you're making, try not to empower the TL with magical powers beyond the benifits they give when fitted to bikes like the GS, because as pointed out many times there's a reason not everyone has taken up the option to fit them on bikes with other design briefs, including some in BMW's own stable :thumb

Damn you and your objective POV, this is a bike forum and that sort of thing has no place here! :D

Tannenbaum thanks for posting that !
I really liked the R1100S for various reasons;Sexy looks like a womens body, great handling and practical.Covered the whole spectrum from trackday to holiday trip like no other bike. And even had it's own race series...My favorite BMW for a long time.I would have loved it if BMW had made some updates;20 kilos lighter for 220 Kg wet, gear indicator and the stronger, smoother and easier revving 2010-on DOHC boxer...I hope a R 1250 S as a modern R1100S replacement will come...:thumb2
B.t.w. I found the old mag from 20 years ago;the 110 hp VTR 1000 made 98 rwhp while the 98 hp R1100S put 90 hp to the rear wheel.Easy math...While the chain driven VTR lost 12 hp between crankshaft and rear wheel the shaft driven BMW only lost 8 hp...:thumby:
And T-L is superior to any fork because T-L uses way softer spring rates to soak up bumps and still does not dive or bottom out like a fork braking hard !
And for the idiots using Rossi as an argument,Rossi rides only on smooth pavement and still crashes with his $25000 Ohlin$$$ fork because he does not know what "feedback" is all those "riding-gods" from the magazines always talk about...:D Maybe the should educate Rossi & Marquez about how feedback feels and where the limit is...;)
As there is no lack of "feedback" with T-L ! You just do it like with any fork equipped bike. You ride hard and hope the tire sticks...as the fork does not tell you anything about the limit either.
Trust me I got Ohlin$$$ on my R9T...and much prefer the T-L on my GS !

Think it must be (occasionally) sharing the GF's veggie lifestyle. Must be having some effect on me, as contrary to some claims no hatred resides here and I still feel the love for BMW (bikes - not cars) :hippy

If her daughter gets me into vegan eating all hope will be lost and before long I will be giving in to the lure of Harley's. I've had this strange feeling lately when looking at some good examples that I've never experienced before but I'd been putting it down to age :tarka:yikes

I'm not a BMW hater. For my sins there are 2 in my garage :D The R1100S is a constant, I cannot/wouldn't get rid of it. You have to accept the facts and realities of a particular bike you own. I can ride the 11S very well, if I may say so, and it has taught me a lot. It was only my second road bike I ever owned. The GSA on the other hand is a tool. That is all. It doesn't excite me but it is very good at doing everything.

On backroads the R1100S was unbeatable. On the track any 600 would take your lunch on any straight...I loved that bike and no the R1200S was not a replacement.A little more top-end but that was it as the rest was not as good !
Yes the GS is a tool but the R9T is a BMW for the soul...:thumb2
Fireflyer if you really start thinking about bikes as bad and uncool as Harleys you must be getting old...very old.Better get a new Volvo. At least the brakes will work and you don't need to wear funny vests and arseless chaps to be accepted in the cult of collective uniformity/boredom dressing up like a gay pirates...;) Harley is dead and about as cool as the self obsessed clowns who ride them and try to rebel against their boring life-styles and buy into that corporate H-D advertising and image crap...
I'd rather ride a bus ! It's way more cool as most of them are air-conditioned...:D

Ditto.
I've owned many BMWs including a BoxerCup Rep,K1300S,numerous GS/GSAs,RTs, etc etc.
And I can see myself buying another older bike such as a nice 1100GS again in the future.
I just wouldn't buy any of the current range as I'm not prepared to part with nearly £20k for a bike that isn't even painted properly anymore, combined with the fact that my local dealer is utter shite and I'd never use them again for a bike.Last year they tried to charge me £160 for drilling out a bolt that included a £25 'road test fee'. Utter twats.

Rather buy a Diavel which is another cult brand of mindless sheeple...at least Ducati shows the Japanese how to build real race bikes once in a while...:thumb
So they are only half as embarrassing as Hardley Ablesons are...
Or KTM which starts to be another cult...With "Ready to Race" YOU can only loose !
If you win it was the Bike and if someone shows you the taillights it must be You as your Bike was Ready to Race...:p
Oh well...wisdom from a die-hard boxer guy...:thumby:

I might go back to the future and buy another R9T...this time in Urban G/S flavor !
If BMW finally gets their heads out of their azzez and offers factory-hard bags and centerstand...

Arsey can't be all bad because I love cats and a Guzzi LeMans 1,3,5,too...;)
I yust don't understand how to put a piece of crap like a Afreeka-tween on a pedestal and then complain of crap paint and cheap plastic on a GS-LC...Arsey must be a professional comedian...:D

Extra power will definitely be wasted on me - but smoother power delivery due to the variable valve timing, particularly if it moderates the current rather abrupt on/off throttle transition will be most welcome.

The on/off effect is simply poor mapping, BMW keeping the development costs under control. The same process as manufacturing parts cheaply in China even if they are poor quality.

Andres...nice MZ if there is such a thing...;)
But it is definitely not from the fatherland as the fatherland ceased to exist on may 8th 1945...:(
MZ I believe where made in the soviet occupied part of Germany while BMW's are made in the still american occupied BRD which still is not Deutschland free and glorious at it once was...;)
At least Brexit is a good start...:beerjug:

Packer the on/off effect is not poor mapping but EU-regulations...:(
And obviously you have not ridden a new Kawasaki Z900RS to know how poor mapping really feels because compared to this even a EU-4 GS-LC is dead smooth !
I think the mapping on GS-LC and R9T models are great considering how lean these bike have run run to comply with the rules the idiots in Bruessels made up...as after a factory remap my EU-4 GS feels at least as strong as a EU-3 model !

Was it not MZ who perfected the 2 stroke technology and then the rider defected to the west to join Suzuki. He chucked his chances to become 50cc world champ.

Kaden a traitor who defected from soviet occupied east-germany with the help of some japanese and gave Suzuki a lot of 2-stroke secrets to wipe the European industry out...not all as BMW,Thaiumph,Ducati and KTM survived...:thumb

Fireflyer if you really start thinking about bikes as bad and uncool as Harleys you must be getting old...very old.

Still haven't got to grips with recognising humour I see. Thought the indoctrination only went as deep as their bikes but I see you've inherited "ze imfamous Germanic sense of fun" :D

Oh well, at least you're introducing a few more smilies into your posts so I guess there's hope yet.

Now repeat after me-
I do, I do, I do believe in fairies
I do, I do, I do believe in fairies
I do, I do, I doooo believe in fairies

If you keep saying the same thing over and over again it must surely turn into a truth :augie

Wet clutches were nothing new in motorcycles but boy did it take MWB a while to make them work in the Boxer.................

Andres

My son turned up at the family home on a brand new LC GSA a few weeks ago, less than 500 miles on the clock.

What is the gearbox like says I? Not bad says he, not great. Can you select neutral when stationary says I? Not easily says he. In other words not much better than the first 2013 models and significantly worse than the dry clutch oil heads which would do 100,000 miles on a clutch if not abused and neutral was easy. Progress?

Do they still have cam chains that lock the gearbox should they break? He didn't know. It was still good for a long haul up the mtorway to Glasgow.

Do I want one? No.

Finally, I could melt the Tourance tyres on an 1150 GS at Knockhill whilst scraping the raised pegs with only 85BHP. I certainly don't feel the need for 150BHP, it is torque that counts anyway 99 times out of a 100.

You can’t even get basic facts right can you? Ernst Degner stole the MZ technology, not Walter Kaaden.

Boxer lust you obviously don't know your history. Ernst Degner defected with his family and took Walter Kardens drawings with him. I believe Kardens never forgave him.
