Phil, thanks for a really great day out

its been over ten years since I was last off-road, and a few weeks ago Phil offered to show me some green lanes in the Peak district

After a scary ride out of my housing estate that was 1" deep in snow, and riding through falling snow on the M60 through Manchester (and stopping to switch to reserve when the petrol ran low, I met Phil in a nice and sunny Macclesfield, and he led me up into the hills

The first lane was accessed after a ride down a tarmac lane that was packed in snow, and there was a family sledging down the road

It wasn't long before my first (and only) off!, and after Phil lifted the Xtz off my leg, we straightened the gear lever to find that the battery was flat :( (reminder, don't run the heated grips and headlightstogether in future)
We tried bumpstarting, but there was no grip in the snow, and thankfully, it was only about a couple of hundred yards downhill to the tarmac

The views from the lanes, with the snow and sunshine were just great

Phil persevered, as I was getting more apprehensive, but thankfully the snow was not as deep or slippery on the following lanes, and I started to get into the swing of things

We stopped for lunch in a little old pub in Tidswell? (I think) and a excellent fill of two courses for £6 :beerjug:

A few more lanes, one a little busy with four wheelers, and we headed back north to find the Snake pass was closed! so a stop for a brew and warm up, then back up to the busy northwest through Manchester and home about 10 miles after the rain started:(

All in all a day to remember, and who says you can't have a great time out in winter :thumb

I have a few pics that we took, but I don't have the privilege to up-load them here, I will sort something out so you can see what we got up to

Try this, if it doesn't work the picks are herehttp://www.bikersoracle.com/kseries/forum/showpost.php?p=10475&postcount=78

Glad you enjoyed it Brian :clap:clap

Well done for sticking with it.

I think it was just about the right level of toughness for the easy ride out (obviously without the snow which made it interesting :eek::eek::eek:).

Can't wait for the winter ride out 3 now, should be really good fun :thumb

Looks like you had a great day :thumb2 Did you see Terry he was in the peaks today on his 525 ...

I spent all day at ante natal classes Hayley dragged me along kicking and screaming :thedummy :D only 7 weeks to the big day

I wouldn't want to do it today on the KTM :bluesn2s

Please please please please please take a camera for the attempt.

Like Evil Kenevil's london jump, he will either make it or wreck every bit of ktm's current clothing/bling catalogue :D:D:D

good on you lads:thumb2
looked bril and all in all a great day weather wise.the pictures say it all.

flipfly is a top bloke, glad you had fun, think i may be in his novice group on 23rd.

i found a little time to escape and took the XL185 on a run and sussed out the start point of the 3rd off road run the pub on the buxton road.?

i bimbled along a few of the little lanes, but not knowing the "allowed" lanes i kept to the tarmac /snow

the good news is the poor little thing managed to haul my 14 stone around the place. my walking pace progress due to the snow in some areas was punctuated by wheel spin

not sure how it or i will cope with proper rough stuff on trial tyres, but promise not to hold people up. if it/i can't stand the pace it will retire gracefully.

me thinks i'm looking forward to this a little to much:thumb2:thumb2:beerjug::clap

Trust me, nobody gets left behind :thumb The little bike will be fine fella, as long as it's reliable. What's it's cruising speed????

We blatted a bit today but we set off later hoping the roads would get better :blast:blast:blast

Sounds like you had fun yourself :clap:clap:clap

I love the fact that the snow brings out the loonies :eek:eek:eek:eek:eek

That's 3 for the 'easy' ride that I know of. 2 more and we're full.

Flipfly you asked
What's it's cruising speed????
well the Sat Nav (yes i have bolted the quest to the xl) top speed 57mph
but blatting about was around the 40 -45 mark (slowing on the hills)

but was with the cars on the surrounding roads.

as for reliability thats what my ride out was for really, only 50 miles home to home but never missed a beat after nearly 30 years and about 100 miles in total since 2004 that i know of.
top of the hill or bust hey.

That'll be fast enough and round trip today for me was 130 miles approx.

My Sat Nav has a recorded top speed of 268mph  feck me the Dak is really quick :D:D:D

great stuff this technology !

the Dak looks like a really useful tool, cant wait to see if the new F800GS can do the rough stuff, it WILL be better than me without doubt.

Only stopped for the photo. Honest......:augie
