MRA

Having bodged fitting the MRA spoiler onto my Wunderlich Ergo I exchanged the spoiler for the full MRA vario screen. Test rode it this afternoon and its going straight back tomorrow. It just doesn't stop the elements like the Ergo. Shame becuase it looked nice.

I might go for the Ergo Vario as seen on the Wunderlich site.

Has anyone tried it? Its like a two piece Ergo where the top section slides up and down. Don't think there is any tilt option, but it would be useful to slide the screen down when off road.

A bit pricey, but if it works, it's a lot cheaper than the Desertio

High Windscreen
F650GS & F800GS bikesTransparent and aerodynamic wind protection with a edge protection (black). Combined to the F800GS screen 22cm higher and to the F650GS screen 26cm higher.
Size (HxW): 440 x 460 mm

With original hand protectors the steering angle will be reduced.

as mentioned its actualy a GIVI screen so maybe you could source it direct from them and save some handling charges :nenau

I actualy get full lock i have bmw bark busters also bar risers and mirror extenders and its perfect free movement.

yes it comes with the black edge protection they do state that but i was just looking at the picture and didnt expect it, the black boes with the bike and i think if you want it can be removed.

i would point out though I have fitted the touratech instrument panel and also the TT infill panel (you can see in my picture this is just cosmetic to the view through the screen standing in front of yr bike :blagblah) any how they did not quite match and a slight squeek was heard so 2 small rubber pads have been added which solves the problemb! :thumb

anyhow im thinking of removing the TT infill as when u wash the bike (and rain etc) you cant get to that tight spot between screen and TT infill so easily , thinking of spraying the inside of my screen black up to the top of the lights. (just cosmetics :blast)

but on the whole the screen is great value and the effect against buffering is amazing for my height 6' wearing a arai tour x 3 if i lean forward slightly
and tilt my peak down i swear i turn into a BMW C1.:eek:

I like the TT Desierto F fairing but I do not think its dimensions are bigger than this screen :nenau it looks great and it adjusts up , down and tilt but i cant get my head around the price £562.34.

Cheers Dean i actually ordered the screen minutes after i' posted after many months of looking for the right screen for me. Great response & advice n1.

My current standard screen has been sprayed black from the inside area & i think you've saved me some money by thinking of doing the same behind the instrument area. I will grasp that idea as my ..OWN!!!11

On a side-note, i've got some EL wire which i intend to TRON my bike, neon-green. I'd like to design jackets with this as piping; displaying silhouette.

A little later... FFS they have sent me the low or medium size screen for a F650GS.

Bloody norra, I've already spoken to a chap from Hornig in germany. (Wounder how much that mobile international call cast me..) Who seems on the ball & has requested pictures. So here is the screen.

A little later again... Further personal bad news, having looked at my pictures i;ve noticed (from my sliding farm-yard crash last night) now got to replace my right-side indicator cover..

Sorry. Yes, that's the wrong screen. I send you on 28.12.09 at once the right pane. I think, from England you can send the screen back with Hermes. I will pay you the return cost back via paypal. Normaly about Euro 15,- shipping with Hermes.

Another update... Now thats what i call sorting out a problem within the hour! Many thanks to Helmut Hornig. Now posted back to germany, postoffice charged me £27.99 for globaleconomy. They regarded the size of the box as an international parcel.

They won't be getting more of my money for some fooking time.









My bmw handguards work perfectly. The little metal bars are not needed on the F800 mounting, also i've got a headlight protector & everything fits without issue. The NN windprotectors have been removed & will need to be cut to fit with the givi-screen.

Nice big clear screen for shoving a handycam against it!!

I have also ordered the Givi screen, as soon as I receive and mount it I'll post how my first feeling was while riding. I hope I made a good choice, I'm 5' 67" height, 30" inseam and lower seat.
 
Wunderlich Ergo vario

Ergo Vario screen arrived yesterday and seems to do the trick. Has a good range of movement and in the fully extended position I can ride at 80mph with my visor up. Lowest position is better for off-roading.

Sorry the pics are not great. The battery was dying on my camera, but hopefully you will get the idea. The screen is adjusted by using the two metal levers you can see on the back of the screen. Loosening the 4 screws on the front of the screen allows for a bigger range of movement. Very quick to adjust and easy to fit.

Pics on left are in lowest position..pics on right are highest.

The bottom section of the screen is smoked and the top is clear. Looks better in real life than in the pictures!

Looks interesting! How tall is the screen at full extension (measured off the top of the main beam) and how much do Wunderlich charge for one? I have been considering a 20in ZTechnic but have not committed myself yet. The Wunderlich Ergo I currently have fitted is not bad but I think I can do better in terms of turbulence.
 
When fully raised, the Ergo Vario is 5cm higher than the standard Ergo which I replaced. In it's lowest position it's 7.5cm lower than the standard Ergo which is much better for off roading when your standing on the pegs and don't want your wind pipe chopped by the screen!

I agree that the Ergo is pretty good but I also suffered from excessive wind noise due to turbulence around the helmet, (Arai Condor and Shuberth C2). I'm 5'7'' with a lowered saddle. The wind noise was much louder than the bike. Now it's much better. You still get occasional side gusts but I can ride with my visor up at 80mph with no problem at all in the current temperatures.

The screen is about £160. It's not yet listed on Nippy Norman's site and I think it was the first one he had sold. You can find it on the Wunderlich site, but you have to order through a UK agent, all of whom are listed. Norman has sold a lot of the 1200GS version and reckons they are highly rated by users.

If you are anywhere near Nottingham you are welcome to have a look.

Thanks, but Nottingham is a bit far from Bristol for a quick ride! 5cm on the Ergo makes it 20.3 in tall which is about the same as the Ztechnic Vstream (which costs a whopping £245 incl VAT). How wide is the Vario compared to the Ergo? It looks a bit bigger in your picture. The Vstream is 17in wide, which helps with the turbulence coming in from the sides, but it isn't adjustable. I am 5ft 8in with a lowered seat and if the Vario is an improvement for you I might be swayed!!

Sorry Dean didn't notice your post until now. Yes the screen, well.. as with most things i do it has a long conviluted trail of distruction & madness.

I like to do things twice..first off quickly (liberal use of word, amateur). And then again with more love & gratitude at my fading finance's. But i goddam get their or i reach a inner plain of numbness.:blagblah

I was replacing the standard screen anyway. But for some reason i used the hard side of a scouring pad on the wind side of the screen. You dopey bastard paddy (me). Having effectively ruined the screen, i cleaned it & used gloss black on the inside. Sprayed around 10+ layers, in very warm environment.

The animated gif below shows the original F650GS screen, the BMW High Touring screen (which I later sold) and the Eagle which I'm still using.

Pity I didn't have the standard F800GS screen to include. I found the rearward rake of the BMW High Touring screen reduced its effectiveness which is why I sold it.

The Eagle is better (and far cheaper), but not still perfect--I have the standard seat--not lowered--and normally have an Airhawk saddle fitted, so the Eagle could still do with being a bit taller. At some stage I'd like to borrow a TT extender to see if it makes any difference.

Interesting stuff.

How much higher would you say that the windblast goes over the screen at it's fullest extension? I'm 6'2" with a 34" inseam so will be looking for a bike with the standard seat height. It's not going to be much good for me if it's still catching the top of my hat.

Incidentally, I'm assuming that the gap between the two parts of the screen provides relief from the back-pressure you can sometimes get with big screens.

Here are the width measurements. The measurements are taken from the edges at the back of the screen, so don't include the curve.

Re the wind blast over the top there is still a little on the very top of the helmet but with much reduced noise.

Thanks to ice on the road where I live It's not been easy to get out since I first tested the vario but I hope to get a long ride in soon.

I've not noticed back pressure on my other screens or this one so I guess it's not a problem. Being vertically challenged I'm afraid I can't help you work out whether the screen work will work for you. I would have to grow 6 inches!
 
Thanks for all the info Malcolm. The 37,35, 48 measurements are the same as the Ergo, which means it will clear the handguards, but with an extra 5cm available in height as well. The Ztechnic is 42cm wide which may help with side turbulence but as noted before is not adjustable and is still far too expensive at £201.77+VAT in spite of a recent reduction (a measely £5.22). I think the Vario looks better too.
