Cambrian Rally 2010

Because if anyone knows how hard it is to stop an outfit offroad it Nathan! :eek
Bring back happy memories? :D
Mark

IIRC it's not so much the stopping thats an issue, more the direction, and steering around things.

On a bike you can pick and weave your own line, where as sidecars just tend to bang and crash there way over or through stuff...

hope you all have a great event. i'm gutted i'm not entering this year :(

Especially as mark needs to get his 6 seconds back!:P

O.K. rally riders, I have just managed to get 16/17 confirmed off work and I can get a late entry to the Cambrian.

This will be my first offroad event in the UK and my first event for almost 20 years (used to road race).

So some novice questions, if you can advise me please,

Where would you suggest that I rate myself 1 to 10? I guess this is who you ride with, but as I’m a late entry maybe I’ll start at the back? I’m thinking 7 = good novice? Hard to know for your first event, I’ve only been green lane riding (50 hours) to date with Herts TRF/UKGSER’s, I am fine at the front of these groups but this is not rally riding/racing.

Fuel. I only have a 7.5 litre tank, green lane riding, this is fine for 60 miles a tank. Hopefully this is enough for each lap? Fuel up after each lap? 20 litres of fuel in can + 7.5 litre in the bike should do for each day?

My bike is 08 Husaberg FE450, standard, no indicators. So sports bike class. Is a standard bike o.k for machine examination? Do I have to lock wire anything as per road racing?

Anything else I need that a novice won't know about, like a service mat:(

Thanks in advance :)

You will be at the back.

The lap is 30 miles, three times a day, 27 litres will more more than enough.

Standard bike in good condition with FIM approved enduro tyres.

See you there chap, Mark. no 111 :thumb

Thanks for that Mark 111, just seen the rider list, looks like I'll be around 130. I shouldn't get overtaken then :augie.

If memory serves, you are number 27 Wreford.
I'm number 30 :green gri
Mark

#27

oh well at least I get to see the fast guys in action as the pass me! -I'd better tape up my headlight

I'll be on the airhead so I'll be roosting my fair share of rocks - to propell 200kg of airhead forward I need to send an equal amount of rocks backwards.

On the day I'll count 2 bikes past and when I hear the 3rd approaching it's time to roost :D

Vans loaded just need to put the bike in and any food I'm taking :D

Should be arriving at the Rugby club about 5pm and in the the Kings Head for 8pm :thumb

Who else is camping at the Rugby club ?

Guys I cannot race a the Cambrian but I will be down on Sunday for a social.

Could you all help me with a bit of photography on the big bikes - 600cc plus.

We are looking to run the Big Bike Rally Challenge next year and we are just getting the web site together and sorting a scoring system.

We would also look to put the results in for 2010 as a test run to see how things go.

cheers

Burt

A very enjoyable event... Having a low entry number gave a fanastic vantage point to see the fast boys in action as they passed in droves on the specials :-)

The Airhead did very well finding traction everywhere and feeling very stable on that bumpy special straight over the remains of tree cutting.

The water was very deep, in fact to deep and it eventually dealt the blow that caused me to lose any hope of finding a spark on the way back to the pits on the 2nd lap of day 2.

The fun bit was having a marshals little 2stroke tow me out... I felt sorry for the poor little thing as it tried to pull and extra 300kg out of the woods especially up hill!

Sorry to pass you on the strata Wreford on day 2 then promptly throw myself off and then hold you up. :blast As Clive would say, Too much exuberance and not enough skill:rob (sums me up really).

nice to meet up with some of you guys and apologies for holding anyone up:augie

lovely weather for it :) not overly happy about being moved to the sports bike section because i didnt have footpegs attached on the day, doesnt make my times look any better mind you but would have been nice to be in the trail group with the other xchallenges.:comfort

for some reason i ended up riding the non timed sections a lot slower on day 2 but i did clear strata florida on day 2 with only one dab of the foot and no falls which is a first for me ... on day 1 i took a bath in one of the puddles on the first lap and a hard fall on the rocks later on lap 2 to bend the gear lever (tt one fortunately) and knock the bars out of line. was also slower on the timed sections on day 2 even though i actually preferred riding them that way round:nenau

still a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, totally exhausted come the end and looking forward to next years! thanks to anyone on here involved in the organisation :beerjug::clap
