Hello everyone. Need your help please. Scratched the visor on my System 5 and now need to fit a replacement but left my manual in another country.:blast What is the recommended technique and procedure for removal of the old visor and fitting of a new one from those of you that have this helmet. Much appreciated.

Flip the visor up fully and pull and wiggle it a little. I usually end up doing each side individually because it can be a pita.

Thanks for the reply Snoopy. Anyone else have any other tips or tricks so I don't go breaking this this rather pricey item?

As Snoopy says.

I swap between visors often (both IV & V have the same fitting).

Raise visor.

Don't pull it up past the normal fully open position.

Grip the visor near the mounting, put a thumb behind it and push forwards and slightly upwards.

Repeat for the other side.

Don't be afraid to apply some pressure.

There is a definite 'click' as it frees.

To remove the chin-bar, raise it to the fully open position (with the visor removed) and then push it back further. There's a second position that is only reached when the visor is off. Do exactly the same, push forward and up slightly, one side at a time.

It does take a bit of a leap of faith the first few times but with practice you can swap/remove visors in seconds.

Replacement is the reverse but in truth is a bit more fiddly until you've done a few times.

Thanks MikeP.....the tips and pics are much appreciated. Still a bit confused about when you need to remove the chin bar. Do you need to remove this in order just to change the normal clear visors? Do you need to remove the chin bar in order to fit the "air" version of the clear visor...i.e. the one that seems a bit bigger and doesn't have the two lift tabs at the lower front of the visor?

Removing the chin bar is not necessary for changing visors. The visor itself has a small arrow on it near the pivot point, indicating which direction to push/pull to remove/refit. With the visor lifted to the top position, I hold the helmet facing me, and gently pull the visor towards me. Once you have done it, you will find replacing the new one self explanitary.

No. I do to add a blob of white grease to the swivel occasionally.

Yes. If you mean what is listed as the Jet Helmet Conversion.

The chin-bar hinge looks like this (this is my System V but they use the same hinge mechanism).

The hinge plates are replacement items, if you break anything, in my experience it's likely to be the tang on the small circular piece in the above picture. Ask me how I know that! :o

Even so, I didn't bother replacing it for a year, it all works as well but was just more fiddly to put back together.

Yes, you only need to take out the chin bar to fit Jet conversion, which consists of a pair of panels that fit over the chin bar mechanism.

if you ride in hot weather its definately something worth doing. The original visor can still be used but taking out the chin bar makes riding a lot cooler
