how do you clean yours? ive just looked at mine and they are going ferrey what do i clean them with im going to laquer them after i get them clean

what I use.........

Once they're corroded either live with it or.........

Green scotchbrite pads remove corrosion double quick and if you do it in a 'linear way' it replicates the original finish.

That just gets it back to 'standard' but it will corrode again unless you protect the surface finish. I use metal polish as here......

http://www.meguiarsshop.co.uk/

Go to glass and metal cleaners and find NXT metal polish.

The NXT stuff doesn't produce a high sheen but causes water to bead and run off, works for me:thumb

Is that one of those old wives tales?, or does that actually work? :augie

....or is it you just find amusment at GS meets, seeing gangs of GS'ers picking tomato skins from nooks and cranies in their panniers??? :JB

Sounds like it might be worth a try tho :thumb2

After the salt and shite is well behind us, I clean with Autosol and a large tub of elbow grease.

I like this one, I've often wondered how you've get them back to original - Nice one...

As for Fanum's chopped tomatos - I dont know if it works or not but like the dirty laundry, soap and water in the dry I'd love to know the thought process behind the first attempt with it or was it a pure accident?

I must admit that's how I do mine.....once you're over the 'am I about to ruin these?' fear, it does work.

Rubbing the autosol lightly in the direction of the 'brushing' with my fingers, then rub it off gently until clean, with an equal shine in all areas, then treat with ACF50 :thumb2

It does work...but takes time and patience...but the results are worth it

The thought process was easy.....just watch what happens to the bottom of a wok or similar coking pot when you leave a spag bol in it overnight- when you come to clean the wok, the whole area covered in tomatoes is shiny bare metal clean.

It's the acid ya know :)

Plus I find the thought of dozens of GSers pouring 24p cans of Aldi's finest chopped toms all over their bikes rather amusing :D

Like Fanum said, the best stuff is some form of mild Acid. It reacts with the corrosion and stops it, the same way that Jenolite etc kills rust on steel.

I dare say even a lemon might work due to the high citric acid content?

I suggested trying Vinegar in a weak solution, as Acetic acid (Vinegar) is corrosive to aluminium so should microscopically etch through the corrosion layer. Don't try neat Vinegar though.

Rinsed off in cold water.
Sponged over with Mer polish in hot water.
Autoglm Aqua wax
ACF50 inside and out.

why do you bread bin owners want to clean them for anyway i thought you wanted to give the impression you were a load of hairy arsed rtw travalers :ymca:pullface

tryed for 10 hours today with solvo but pitting to deep so striped all locks and mounts off now a painters :blast

Add garlic to taste and just a hintof basil, lots of fresh black pepper, serve with a side salad
