OK, I've finally organised my lardy arse, and am off to the Highlands camping in a couple of weeks.

I'll be leaving Basingstoke, looking for a nights stop-over in the Lakes (probably North Lakes / Northumberland), and then heading up to Glencoe for an overnight, and then Applecross for a night or two. After that I'm pretty free as to where I stay and what to see. I've got the Cool Camping guide, so I'll be using that as a starting point.

After that I'm looking for things to see. I am using this as a chance to ride the bike as much as possible, around as many good / interesting roads as I can (no rush - taking it slow but steady). So I'm looking to follow the 'scenic roads' on the map.

However, apart from the fantastic scenery and ever changing weather, what would you good folk recommed that I don't miss. I've already got some ideas from other posts and previous vists (many years ago as a kid), and I'm currently working my way through the 'Discover Scotland' sticky but I don't want to miss the opportunity to see the best so if I may prevail upon your expertise ...........

So let me have your suggestions for Castles, monuments, viewpoints etc.

Cheers

there'll be a young lady along promptly, completely dressed in tartan, serving shortbread and answering all your questions :flag

Mallaig Ferry to Skye. Skye Skins Tannery, best fleeces on the planet, had ours for 15 years and >100k miles, still as good as new.

Applecross, obviously :augie Pass of the cows in, coast road northwards out.

Cape Wrath Lighthouse :thumb Take the boat and Sherpa taxi from just south of Durness.

Glenelg Ferry to Skye. Skye Skins Tannery, best fleeces on the planet, had ours for 15 years and >100k miles, still as good as new.

What is it with threads asking where to go in Scotland - it's not that big, pick an area and enjoy it - its all fab - there's two threads at the top of the section with plenty of ideas and use the search facility FFS - there's plenty ride reports

The SS is no' in.

Wur either :-
a. a' oot enjoying wurselves
or
b. booted off and out enjoying wurselves

and Wully did'nt even mention the blondey bird who sometimes works at Skyeskins--owners daughter??--go there and see her and you are surely going to need to spank one out soon. Mind you she's a bit too near to an ejaculated member of this parish for safety!

I've just been on their website, this daughter sounds like she could be worth the trip. Theres a few nice models on there draped in sheep skin.

If you're up there for a few weeks and you don't mind wild camping, you might want to think about visiting Bara uist harris and lewis. A wild a different side to Scotland, quite lonely though, no campsites, but there are hotels and b&b's. beautiful beaches and great secluded places. Have a look at some of my photos from the links.

Thanks Fruitcake, I've spent time in Scotland before (many times) and know that it is one of the finest places for scenery and roads (and the wee beastie). I've also been working my way through the stickies, the ride reports and the 'Search -FFS' tool :comfort - which has loads of great info.

I just thought it worth asking if anyone had any specific recommendations.

I'll keep reading and searching, and am happy to take any other suggestions.

Cheers
