I have recently suffered a Fuel Pump Controller 'FPC' failure symptoms, which I am now sure turns out to be an electrical connection issue. I fitted the controller, so it is totally my fault, but I have learned a lesson which I will share:
The recall 2010 FPC is black and looks like this:
It sits above the fuel pump and plugs into it with the large blue plug. The FPC body is then secured with two small T20 torx screws
The bike electrics comprise a red plug, which EASILY plugs ino a port to the side of the FPC and a yellow plug, which TIGHTLY plugs into the FPC:
Note the word TIGHTLY
Next is where the fitting error can arise. The next picture shows the plugs fitted half way. The red one goes in easily:
The bike will still run with the plugs in this position
The red one clicks in nicely, but trust me the yellow one feels very snug in the above picture, despite the fact that it is not fully located
Things are only correct when you can no longer see any colour:
I am sorry if this seems very obvious to any auto electricians, but my yellow plug needed a tremendous push before it was fully in and I,as an amateur did not not fit this correctly causing a breakdown
An easy issue to check visually.
