Gear change problem.

I am having trouble with the gear change on my 1150, bike has been sat in the garage since October. I took it out for a spin yesterday and it went up through the box ok but wont go back down, I think the pivot bush has siezed. I had to return home using only third and fourth. Whats the best way to remove the clips from the ball joints? I dont want to ping them into some dark corner of the garage.

Easy peasy.

The little clip has a long pin which fits into the ball joint. Just use a pair of pointy nose pliers to wiggle it out. There will be little resistance. It won't ping as it's not sprung.

Bloody hell Rob that was quick, you must have been looking over my shoulder as I was typing. Thanks, I will go and fix it first chance I get. Good to know that they are not the springy, fly all over the place kind of clips that have caused me grief in the past.

No bother. I have to do mine once or twice each winter.

Easy peasy on a GS.

To do the same on the RT you have to disassemble half of the bike Turns a 10 minute job into 90 minutes of swearing.

sticky gear change

Following a steptoe thread I did mine without removing ball joints You have to get on your back from the other side of the bike at times but easy enough ,pushed the nylon bush out and put a dremmel with sanding head in it to slightly enlarge it I'm talking light sanding.greased and back together ,no problems

Thanks for your help guys. Stripped the gear lever today, had to use a bit of heat to loosen the locktite. Cleaned internals with fine wire wool greased parts and put it back together. Bike is now back to normal.

I found this picture which may help others when they have to do this job.
