Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone could recommend a decent cover for my new GS1200. Unfortunatley, I don`t have a garage, & will have to put the GS at the top of my drive! Pickin it up this Saturday, so gonna try & sort somethin this week. I live in a quiet close, so security shouldn`t be too much of an issue, but with winter closin in, I wonder if anyone could suggest a decent WATERPROOF cover that actually fits the GS, & doesn`t fill up with condensation! Any advice would be appreciated :)

this one

these are brilliant . i had one before i got
my garage to keep my busas in they dont touch the bike so no scratches and you can shut it over ya hot bike . plus you can lock it shut down so bit more secure . they withstand all sorts of weather wind etc i dont think you can beat them

http://www.thebikebarn.net/ i got the cheaper version from e bay

Just spotted this one on ebay. Measure you bike and maybe ask him if there's one that fits yours. BikeBarn make one that will fit the GS, but it'll cost more, but worth it IMO.

I use this cover Have done for years. They won't keep the bike dry but will keep it clean and there's no chance of condensation causing corrosion. You can put it straight onto a wet bike and not worry about the bag of steam effect that will occur inside most other covers when the sun comes out and warms things up inside it. You can put it straight on without having to waight for things to cool down too.
My 1200 lived under one for two years out in all weathers with no problems at all. It now covers my sidecar outfit.

What ever cover you get, also get a manky bit of tarpaulin to put over your new cover. Scum who are on the lookout for bikes might take notice of a new bike cover, but will be less likely to look at what could be a bag of old rubbish on two wheels under a dirty bit of tarp.

Few despatch riders i knew in London did this, always thought it was a handy tip.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I will go buy the Oxford Stormex I think. It looks good. Saw one in Hein Gericke (bit pricey tho!) £70.00 !! Looked at the Motrax & the Bike Barn thingy. Looks like that would blow away, unless pegged down on grass!Plus, I don`t think a massive bike tent on the drive would go down to well with the missus. Cheers everyone anyway. Can`t wait till Sat now, even tho it looks like its gonna piss down :comfort

don't dismiss motrax

The motrax has both an elasticated bottom and a strap that clips underneath. i have had it on in all sorts of of unpleasant weather and it didn't budge. plus it has integrated holes for your security chain which essentially eliminates the chance of it blowing anywhere. in case no one mentioned it the large also takes a full set of varios

just a thought

never under estimate the willingness of the british tea leaf to take anything that is easy to get their hands on. you may want to consider installing a ground anchor (you can get ones that are flush with the ground when not in use so you dont trip over it) and as a minimum a decent chainlock.

Enjoy your GS

Currently have my GSA with top box sitting under a Oxford Stormex ... the extra height from the top box keeps the cover off the ground so it can breath keeping the bike dry ...

Thanks all. Brought the Oxford Stormex today. Jamie Magic, does the Stormex fit over with the panniers on aswell mate, or just with the top Box on?

Chapperz ... i'll be honest mate i haven't tried ... only tend to have the panniers on when touring ... but the top box stays on the whole time ...

would be interested to know cause i'm guessing you've tried by now ..

Been using the cover daily for nearly 6 months now and it still looks good as new .....

Hi JamieMagic. Actually mate, I avn`t tried yet. Are you ok about leavin yer bike out thru the winter (snow & ice) under the Oxford cover! I use the works van everyday, but am worried about the GS`s battery takin a hammerin whilst the bike is standin thru the week! Especially as we are goin into minus temps!

Oxford kit! You would be better off using a plastic taup.

Serioulsy spend loads of dosh on a BM then scimp and scrape with a cover. Buy the best money can buy.

But if its left out side its gonna need some oils or preservatives spraying over it.

I have a oxford cover and all it seems to do is promote condensation when the temparature drops.

I am not sure what the answer is. I have tried all sorts over the winter and my bike is in a garage.

This year its spray the bike in ACF 50 then remove the cover once the cold weather comes to stop condensation. My bike is in a garage though.

If it was out side. I would be whipping the cover off every sunny day and letting the bike air. A pain but its your pride and joy. Besides what else are you supposed to do with your time in winter!

ACF 50 is good. Very good.
