Thanks Tony, it seems they have finally listened and now show road names / numbers on top of routes. Bl##dy pain before routes used to cover road numbers making it difficult to see whether you were on the correct route. Nice little touch on the tool bar. Gives the option to quickly increase or decrease map detail. A must for moving about planning routes. Waypoint selection as also changed with lots of use definable waypoints now. Just need to get a decent search tool now.

Is there a way of finding out what the differences are between the previous version and this one, to help us decide whether it's worth getting the updated one ? Sorry, if this is a thick question, but the latest Mapsource was included when I bought the system new - so I've not needed to update previously.

Yes certainly is have a look Here and it details all the changes. This update is free and can only improve Mapsource so download it.

Good man Gazza, for some unknown reason my update e-mail has not come from Garmin yet??

Just started to download it now, 1 hour 20 minutes was the time remaining the last time I looked :o

Sizable update then?

Yep my auto email notification never appeared either, saw TonyM's posting.

I've carried out the upgrade to 6.5, do now I need to tansfer anything to my 2610 GPS unit or will it load automatically the next time I transfer a new route/mapset?

Hmmm, 4 minutes on broadband.

No this software is only an upgrade for the mapping and routing programme ( Mapsource ) on your pc. It never leaves your pc just makes the Mapsource software held on your pc easier to use. Does that make sense.

So there is no need to reload the mapsets stored on the datacard then?

BTBR

Correct they are held in the Mapsource programme but their content is controlled by European City Navigator City Select Europe or whatever Mapping you have loaded. Have a look Here and you can see when new versions are to be released and price. If you are unsure what you have loaded, open Mapsource, select the Help option along the top, then ABOUT MAPSOURCE, then Product info and you will find the version you are running. Hope this helps.

Tried to update Mapsource 6.30 to 6.50 today, after downloading and trying to install it came up with this:

CRC Error: The file C:\Garmin\mapsource.exe doesn`t match the file in the setup`s.cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor.

Anybody help on this? I am using XP home edition. :(

Shed where did you download your 6.5 to ? Got to be honest I always download to desktop. Then it's a self extracting file and updates with no further intervention. Not much help is it. If it were me I would do the above and see what happens. If you have done that then time to contact Garmin
