I finally installed two sets of HIDs to my R1200GS.
I used the two Tourstech Spots (HID and Halogen).
I also used a second set of HID which I installed in the dipped beam.Goes straight forward and you make one whole to pass the grommet with the two wires(I also used some black silicon) I connected the Touratech halogen fog lamp on the dipped beam. So,no error messages for burned out lamp. Then I use the dipped beam as well for the relay(via a switch to have the choice) that activates the Dipped HID.
I also connected a second relay (via switch again) on the main beam that activates the Touratech HID spot.
It works flawlessly and only puts an extra 70W max load when everything working.
You have to take into account that each HID uses about 15Amps while warming up the lamp (15secs) so the wiring and fuses must cope with 30Amps.
I think this info is useful and will soon post some pics.
The HID set comes from Norman (NIPPYNORMANS.COM).
The result is astonishing ..... better than anything on the road :)

Any chance of some pics?

Also, where did you find the HID headlight kit on Nippy Normans? I can't find a kit for the 1200.

I've got 6 hid on my bike, driving and high beam-and 2 sets of Hellas, 2 with 50 watt ballast and 2 with the regular 35 watt ballast but using the new yellow bulbs from philiphs.
The worst was finding room for the 6 ballast.
I can see the road much better:D

There is no kit for the 1200.You just need a H7 kit.
As for the ballast bracket,Icopied my touratech one and placed it n the other side of the cockpit.

I took delivery of my lovely new 1200gs ysterday.. coming back to the GS after a couple of years with a k1200gt which I had fitted an HID conversion to. I had removed the kit to fit to my new GS but cannot fathom where I am to mount the ballast. Looks like I am going to have to fabricate a mounting similar to the touratech one (not sold seperately I beleive) but dont have the luxury of having one already to copy. Can you possibly post some pictures of your mounting and maybe a drawing with dimensions. I am sure this will be a tremedous help to others like me who want to do the HID conversion on the cheap....£200 instead of £400 for a "kit" with brackets already included. I am talking about the dipped beam H7 bulb of course.

Well actually I didn’t make any brackets; the ballasts are secure and place in different ways.
Four of the ballasts are the regular Hella witch are 35 watts and look kind of a square box just like the ones Touratech uses, the other 2 are separate pieces that’s the 50 watt one, also made in Germany.
Two are on top of the driving lights, that’ the H7 kit, another 2 are under the front fender witch share the space with the EZpass tag, and the other two are under the gas tank.
I’m using Philips #85122 bulbs for the driving light high beam and the top 2 Hella micro DE that uses the 50 watt ballast.
The other 2 Hella micro De I put the new yellow hid bulbs made by Philips, I don’t remember the model #.
I usually ride with the main headlight and the yellow lights on. I can assure u that I’m very visible in this mode, day or night. Riding around the chaotic traffic in NY City made me rethink about different approaches to become more visible, since the most common accident is the left turn in front of the biker (witch I experiment in 95).
So far I very happy with my setup, although expensive.
Also when traveling on open road, I can really light up the road
:D
I will post pictures.

Its really hard toinstall more than 2 ballasts(HID).
I installed 2. One using the touratech brachet and another one using a copy of that bracket I fabricated, on the other side of the cockpit. its not very smart to install a ballast on the front beak as it is visible and you no longer can remove the beak to do some work. Under the tank there is no space if you have ABS Integral...there is just enough space for the relays.
I found some space under the toolbox shelf (you can remove it by pulling gently upwards) underneath there is the starter relay.

Yes u can have 2 ballast under the tank attach to the frame, just have to use ingenuity and have patience, and u can remove the tank without problem, the ballast stay attach to the frame, they don’t interfere with nothing.
As I mentioned before the ones under the fender are smaller than the Hella, because they are 2 pieces, the biggest piece the size of a cigarette box, that’s the 50 watt, and u can’t see them, unless u get under the bike.
The ones on top of the lights where the easiest to fit.

Very interesting, but... what would be even more interesting is if you could ride your bike out onto a pitch-black road, then take a pictures seen from the riders perspective; starting with original lights (main/low but this would probably require you to change bulbs, so forget about that)
and then gradually switch on more lights and show all the light combinations.

This would give me an impression of the differences with the different lights on.

Sweet! Nice looking bike, btw!
