Never done any riding in the lake district

Recommended roads and camp sites much appreciated (end of April)

Steve

My favourites are the Hardknott, Wrynose, Kirkstone and Honister passes, but mainly for the scenery rather than the riding. The best roads are actually in the North Pennines and Borders e.g. Hartside road and Alston - Middleton-in-Teesdale

It can be a nightmare on a holiday weekend everywhere in the Lakes due to traffic, but there are any number of challenging roads, not pegs down, but GS friendly:

Wrynose, Honister and Whinlatter Passes...don't expect to go fast.

Get a OS Lakes Leisure map and pick out the squiggly roads..

:)

LANEFOOT FARM CAMPSITE,nr keswick.a few of us have stayed here a couple of times.pub with food just up the road, and a log fire outside your tent if you want one.

I think the lake district is all about the high mountain passes - try and do them all. It's not about speed, but as Sven says above, perfect GS territory and seriously steep.

+1 for the Campsite in Great Langdale, it's a beauty, you don't have to book, there are two cracking pubs nearby and the Wrynose pass is just round the Corner.

And don't miss Borrowdale - the loop around Derwentwater is stunning. And Honister pass over into Buttermere is a cracker too.
