....at least i think it is.

Out and about on my GS para yesterday and after a brief stop it failed to start.

turning over OK, fuel Ok, but no spark.

Off with the tank. Everything looked OK and connected but the ignition control unit and its heat sink were very hot.

When i took it off there was no evidence of the conductive paste to the heat sink.

i have ordered a replacement BUT should i be looking for a seperate cause/problem.

Is it possible just the unit itself has failed ?

i am asking because i dodn´t wish to damage the replacement.

Thanks.

Very difficult to diagnose...but I wouldn't worry about there being no heatsink paste..as long as the faces are clean then it should still be all OK.

Maybe coil or remove the front engine cover and do a quick visual of the diode board wiring connections ( although ignition light usually stays on if this is faulty ).

Oh and kill switch is on I presume !

thanks Kenny,

i will check under the front cover (after disconnecting battery), to look for anything strange. The generator light was behaving normally.

The kill switch is OK, the engine was spinning great, just no spark.

I guess if i change the ICU and still no spark, then i will check the coil ?
