'Ultimate' Earplugs..... oh yes?

Laser Lites, cost half of fuckall, I loose them all the time, but as they at virtually free and work I won't b changing soon.

I've had earplugs from Ultimate, moulds made by that Judge chap, and both the bike ones, and the squidgy sleeping ones have been good. The soft sleeping ones are in fact bloody brilliant at festivals where drunken antics can often last until the early hours, and they are comfortable enough to sleep with all night long.

But the shooting ones I've been less impressed with, don't think they block out quite enough noise for rifle shooting. My ears were ringing badly for a couple of days after some mad sod with a muzzle brake let fly on the next firing point. I did raise this matter with UE but received no answer.

OK for clays though.

I had mine done at the NEC show last year by a company called Fit Ear (couple of American guys).
Took the impressions earlier in the day and I collected them on my way out of the show, so no messing around.
Great fit, comfortable and didn't cost a fortune. :thumb

Some twat lets off a muzzle brake gun next to you and let's face it, there's probably not a lot that would have stopped your ears ringing :thumb

I have reservations about UE, but the fact that you can still hear after that seems pretty impressive to me :thumb

Got UE moulds done at the NEC last year. Got them made with attenuation holes so I can hear helmet speakers. Perfect fit, perfect comfort all day long, brilliant noise control and can also hear the sat nav. 100% happy. My lid doesn't put a lot of pressure on my ears so I guess that makes a difference.

Cosmic ears

I'd like to suggest a company called Cosmic Ears. They are based in Sweden and run by an English guy Phill. Very passionate about what he does and designs and builds specialised in ear monitors. I've been kept very well informed about the progress if the making of them with regular text messages and a few phone calls from Sweden.
They've been posted today so hopefully ill get them by weeks end and ill report back but for cost and customer care I can't fault him.

Had a set done via Micky here. Didn't take long and and was good fun.

Been through loads of types, even the r& c racing (I think, orange diy mold ones from Get geared). But Mickeys were a much more comfortable fit that I can wear all day.

Would recommend to anyone.

Myself and the wife both had impressions taken by UE at the BMF show and we're told we'd have a three week wait.

3.5 weeks later I chased them up to be told they were in the lab and would be despatched that week, sure enough the wifes turned up a few days later and fit just fine.

I'm still waiting for mine now a week later and have been told 'they must have been separated in the post' I've asked for confirmation of a posting date but so far getting silence.

not impressed at customer service so far that's for sure....

They were a big waste of time - for me..

"Ultimate Error" would be a more fitting name.

Micky every time for me :thumb2

Ian as I am in the office I have looked and I have seen your package in the post out bag, they will go today and be with you in whatever time Royal Mail deliver 2nd class post.

I don't have any further answers as to why they got separated but please if you want this looked into ask to speak to Kym the office manager as this is her domain. She could also shed some light on the lack of a reply you mention.

thanks mate,

at least I know where they are now, based on the wifes they should be here Saturday then...

It's Kym I've been exchanging emails with and it would appear she's not actually made any checks from the info I've received so far, she told me they'd be posted last week!! based on that I don't see the point in chasing further at the moment.

it gets better,

just had an email from Kym

Dear Ian

Your plugs have been dispatched have your received them yet?

Kind regards

Kym

oddly no, I haven't seeing as they're sitting in a bag waiting to be sent :blast

I've again asked for a despatch date just to see what response I get

Just thought I'd post a quick update on here chaps. Following a couple of emails, Dave from Ultimate came round on Wednesday this week to re-take my impressions. With the gloop in my ears, got me to sit on my bike, helmet on so we know they would be taken whilst in 'the position'.

I was told the impressions would be back at the lab the next day, earplugs made, and hopefully out to me for next week.

Got a phone call from Ultimate on Thursday confirming my plugs were being made and checking the address to post to, as they should be here yesterday (no), today (Sat) or Monday.

Fingers crossed. I'll post an update again with my thoughts when they've arrived.

Hi Mark,

Posted special delivery yesterday I've just checked the post book.

Sorry I didn't do the visit only we got swapped as I was needed in London for a meeting with one of the big commercial clients.

I'm sure the boss didn't disappoint ;)

No probs fella. They arrived yesterday (at wifes shop), but I had to go off to work last night before she came home with them. Will try and get out today for their test ride!

So far so good though bud, thanks :thumb2

Right, an update. Firstly, a big thank you to Dave who got hold of this for me and turned my disappointment around. He put in some effort to come to my house, take new impressions & return to me my new earplugs (along with the impressions) well within a week.

Oddly, one of the plugs didn't seem to fit/feel right, but was assured if I sent them back, they would be sorted. I sent them back so they arrived back at Ultimate on Weds last week, saying to Dave that I had hoped to use them this weekend for a planned trip away, so he said he'd do his best.

Anyway, Friday morning I got a phone call from my wife (they were being delivered to her shop) to say they had arrived. I used them this weekend for our trip and, although I'm going to have to get used to the slightly firmer feel in my ears compared to the foam jobbies, they seem to work a treat!

So, an upset customer turned around into a very happy one. I appreciate the extra effort put in by the guys at Ultimate who obviously wanted this sorted for me, and would say thanks to them too.

If this is the customer service Dave expects us to receive from his company, then I would whole heartedly recommend them, as I now feel that my 'issues' before were just an unfortunate set of circumstances that just happened to effect me & my order!

Anyway, as I said above, many thanks guys. It's nice to feel like a valued customer!

I've used UE for years. IMHO their monitors are astoundingly good. Far better noise reduction than disposables and superb sound quality from the built in speakers. All day wearable and all night as well if the campers are boisterous.

I've broken wires on a number of occasions but always got great service from UE.

The key thing is the impressions, if these aren't done well nothing that they do at the factory will make them fit properly. I used an audiologist in Paisley and asked that he make the impressions deep as I have weird shaped canals. He did and the plugs work brilliantly although I need a bit of lubricant to get them to slide easily into the ears.

was just looking up UE comments, and found this thread. I just ordered my second set with them. I completely agree with the post above. I believe UE has fair pricing. Other solutions are the likes of Variphone, which are high priced, high quality, on stage musician earplugs.
This time around I cleaned my ears during two weeks prior to impressions being taking, and I also had them taken as deep as possible (foam stops touching the eardrum).
I suffer from light tinnitus, it's great to have this level of noise reduction, and have background music while riding

I'm in Belgium, I agreed with Dave @ UE I could have impressions taken anywhere as long as they meet the requirements (they're on the UE website).

For non UK readers, what i found is when you walk into a hearing aid shop, they are more than happy to do just impressions when you pay cash. Off course being non registered sales, I had 3 sets of impressions done for pds 20, and she worked hard on it. On the first set the "top hook" did not come out correctly, so I asked her to fill up first the inner canal, then the "top hook" part, and then fill up the rest of the ear. She wasn't entirely pleased with the second impressions, so did a third set.

Oh and do have impressions taken jaws slightly open.
